Ignorance is indeed bliss... when details are merciless.

(LONDON) - Welcome to post post-modern times
Where loves comes with a turn and a twist
Nothing is ever straightforward
You're thinking of the age of innocence

Everything is on offer, with a discount if you insist
Try a bit of that, a touch of this
You don't even have to be sincere
And sex may precede any meaningful kiss

Love cannot be constant
Amidst an ever-alternating narrative
Every day she tells a new story
Every night he pretends to believe

In private, they're lovers
In public, no relationship exists
Ignorance is indeed bliss
When details are merciless

Kissing with eyes wide open
On the look-out for new partners, not to be missed
Like drinking to get sober
Some cheat to remain honest

We often set ourselves up
Yet protest when shot down
She may have drawn a tear and a frown on his face
But it was he who ultimately played the clown

One is not obliged to fall in love with the Virgin Mary
But must one fall for a merry-go-round?
When fidelity vows are treated like New Year resolutions
It's time to bid farewell and quit queuing for one's round

We deserve – there has got to be – more than this
You can leave by dawn, but before then remain committed
Love may not be eternal
But it needn't be so profane, no matter how short-lived
