(SALEM) - As a dedicated writer who makes a measurable difference in the world, Marianne Skolek, author of more than 130 articles for Salem-News.com, has been named 'Investigative Reporter' by the group's News Editor, Tim King. Marianne's first article, Losing a Loved One to Hillybilly Heroin OxyContin, was published in July 2009. From that time forward, she has generated a consistent news beat that examines this societal ill of prescription drug abuse. Her articles have led to the dismissal of officials, the enlightenment of policy makers, and the awareness of hundreds of thousands, possibly millions of readers. Skolek concentrates on the problems connected to the business practices of criminally-convicted drug maker Purdue Pharma, which are widespread and particularly potent in states like Oregon, Washington, Ohio, Florida and New York. She has a powerful reason beyond her own personal humanity, for zeroing in on the problems spurred by the actions of Purdue Pharma, the manufacturers of OxyContin. King says, "Marianne is an amazingly effective activist/writer with an endless amount of compassion. As a Licensed Practical Nurse, she had to cross the hardest moment any parent ever could; Marianne's daughter Jill died from an OxyContin-related respiratory failure. It turned her mom into a one-woman-army. It was the knowledge that Purdue marketed this deadly drug to doctors as both 'non-lethal' and 'non-addictive', that launched her mission". It's easy to conclude that Jill was an addict, but she was not. It's easy to conclude that something just went wrong, and that is true, however the 'thing' in this case is the FDA and its failure to halt this relentless transformation of a nation of smart, caring people, into a fleet of wandering zombies legally strung out on any number of addictive drugs, OxyContin is always at the top of the list. Marianne has revealed endless useful information for families suffering from this epidemic problem. The addicts and the profiteers challenge and bemoan her writing content, and we are watching it take effect. King says his mantra about the value of journalists who write from the heart of real experience, is most defined with Ms. Skolek, whose nickname at Salem-News.com in the inner-channels, is Lois, short for Lois Lane; that is what we think of Marianne Skolek. "The title of 'Investigative Reporter' for Marianne Skolek is an appropriate, overdue move in our history. People like Marianne are a blessing for this broken world," King said. I'm sure we'll see your byline all over the media, just like the other writers from this news group whose work ends up being published all over the Internet, a deserved title indeed, congratulations Ms. Skolek.
