Mt. Angel Crash Leaves Two Boys Dead and Four Others Injured (UPDATED)

(MT. ANGEL, Ore.) - (Names were released today, this is the updated report including this information)

Two children died and four other people were injured in a two-car crash on a rural road east of Mt. Angel this morning. Marion County Deputies received the call at 11:17am, notifying them of the crash at Dominic Road NE and Meridian Road NE.

Traffic Safety Deputy Casey Burnham arrived and found the intersection strewn with debris from the collision. Mt. Angel Fire Department Medics and Woodburn Ambulance assisted at the scene. The weather was clear and the roads were dry.

Deputies say two boys, 9-year old Devin Hunt and 12-year old Dawson Hunt, were pronounced dead at the scene. Their father, Lenny Hunt, was transported to Silverton Hospital for initial treatment, but was later transported by LifeFlight to Oregon Heath & Science University hospital in Portland.

His condition is not known, and consistent with HIPAA regulations no further report will be made on his condition without his authorization. The family is from Mt. Angel.

Preliminary investigation indicates that the 1993 red Saturn occupied by Lenny Hunt was traveling eastbound on Dominic Road, when it was struck, broadside, by a 1998 white Dodge Stratus that was traveling northbound on Meridian Road NE.

Dominic Road traffic is controlled by a stop sign at Meridian. Meridian Road traffic has no traffic control governing the intersection.

A Silverton couple, Wolfgang and Linda Fischer and their 9-year old grand daughter Serene Smith-Fischer occupied the Dodge Stratus. All three were injured and transported to the Silverton Hospital for treatment.

Their conditions are not known, but are believed to be non-life-threatening. Consistent with HIPAA regulations no further report will be made on their conditions without authorization.

The Marion County Traffic Safety CRASH Team is conducting a forensic investigation into the cause of the crash. Their investigative report is expected in approximately two weeks.

The investigation is on going, and no information as to the cause of the crash is available at this time. Witnesses are still being interviewed.

Sheriff's Office officials have been in contact with the Mt. Angel School District.

The school district is activating their Flight Crisis Team and will have counselors available at St. Mary's Elementary School and Mt. Angel Middle School when students arrive for class on Monday morning.
