Oregon State Police, Salem Police Plan Capitol Mall Crosswalk Enforcement This Week

The citation for failing to yield to a pedestrian in a crosswalk is $243.

(SALEM) - If your commute this week takes you around the Capitol Mall in Salem, Be Aware! that the Oregon State Police and Salem police will be out looking for drivers violating pedestrian safety laws.

Officers will also be targeting pedestrians who are violating traffic safety laws.

Police say that drivers may stay stopped at a crosswalk until a pedestrian has crossed the drivers lane and the next lane.

A crosswalk exists at every intersection, even if it is not marked.

The citation for failing to yield to a pedestrian in a crosswalk is $243.
