Lifetime & Legend Winners and the Golden Mike Awards

Dick Enberg, Giselle Fernandez, and John Brooks to Be Honored By Southern California Broadcast Journalists

(UNIVERSAL CITY, CA) - Nationally prominent sportscaster Dick Enberg, journalist and entrepreneur Giselle Fernandez, and award-winning radio newsman John Brooks will receive top honors at the 64th annual Golden Mike Awards(r) show in Universal City, the Radio & Television News Assn. announced.

Enberg will receive the RTNA's Broadcast Legend Award at the gala dinner on Jan. 25. The versatile sportscaster is recognized nationally for his signature cry of "Oh, my!" His long career has encompassed NFL football, two decades of Wimbledon Tennis Championships, Game of the Week college basketball games, as well as UCLA basketball, LA Rams pro football and California Angeles baseball, not to mention dozens of events at the Olympics. Currently he is the voice of San Diego Padres on Fox Sports San Diego. "Dr. Enberg" broke into TV fulltime at KTLA in Los Angeles in 1965, after several years in academia at what is now Cal State University, Northridge. He holds a national Emmy Award for Lifetime Achievement.

Ms. Fernandez is a recipient of RTNA's Lifetime Achievement Award. She gained national prominence anchoring major network newscasts and morning shows for CBS and NBC, after beginning her career on local TV in Los Angeles. She is a five-time Emmy Award winner for her insightful interviews of global leaders such as Fidel Castro, Henry Kissinger, and Presidents Bill Clinton and George H.W. Bush. She currently hosts the "Big Shots" online video interviews for LA Magazine and is well known locally and nationally as an entertainment executive and a motivational speaker for Latinas in business and public life.

John Brooks also receives a Lifetime Achievement Award for more than 40 years on Southland radio reporting thousands of breaking stories, features and investigations. Thirty-four of those years were spent on all-news stations KFWB and KNX covering stories from NASA space missions to fires and floods, and always in Brooks' smooth, accurate and entertaining style. He began his career at KVEN-AM in Ventura and garnered six Golden Mike Awards before retiring last year.

The Golden Mike Awards are presented annually by the Radio & Television News Assn., the non-profit group representing broadcast newsrooms from Central California to the Mexican border, including Los Angeles and San Diego. RTNA coordinates TV "pool coverage" of major news events and court trials in four Southland counties, champions freedom-of-information causes, and provides scholarships for the next generation of broadcast journalists.
