(HERMISTON, Ore.) - Police say a 15-year old Hermiston girl was seriously injured Wednesday afternoon when she was ejected from the pickup she was driving as she attempted to cross Highway 395. Her vehicle was struck by a van about two miles north of Hermiston.

Sergeant Allan Muhs with Oregon State Police says that today around 3:23 PM, a 1988 GMC flatbed pickup driven by 15-year old Crystal S. Lowery Davis of Hermiston, was stopped at a stop sign and then attempted to cross eastbound across five lanes of Highway 395 onto Klaus Road.

The GMC pickup was struck in the passenger side by a northbound 1999 Chrysler Town & Country van driven by 85-year old Charles Robert Boddeker of Umatilla. Both vehicles came to rest off the highway, according to Muhs.

The teen driver of the pickup, Crystal S. Lowery Davis, was not using safety restraints and was ejected from the pickup. She was transported by ambulance to Good Shepherd Medical Center in Hermiston and then transported by air ambulance to an unknown Portland area hospital with serious injuries.

Boddeker was using safety restraints and his van's airbags deployed. He was transported to Good Shepherd Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries.

Oregon State Police troopers from the Hermiston work site are continuing the investigation. Personnel from the Hermiston Fire Department, Hermiston Ambulance, and ODOT assisted.

This Becca, Crystal’s little sister. After this crash my parents were investigated and we were sent into foster care. The truth of the abuse and pain my parents caused was uncovered. My sister has permanent brain damage from this crash that she never would have been in if my father hadn’t forced her to drive. Thank you detective for discovering the truth. You brought me and my three sisters to safety.

I am Crystals' mom and I am very proud of the progress she has made and the strength she has shown in her recovery. I love you very much honey.
