Salem Police Department Seeks 'Still Wanted' Fugitives

(SALEM) - In January 2010, the Salem Police Department launched a new and improved "Most Wanted" program that four years later has proved to be a great success.

The Top Ten Most Wanted lists the most sought after criminals who have prolifically committed crimes affecting the Salem community. A poster is created each month detailing ten subjects and their photograph, name, description, and warrant information.

In the last four years, 157 subjects have been featured and 129 of those have been arrested.

However, there are 19 subjects that have eluded capture. To keep the poster up-to-date, criminals that are sought, but are thought to be out of the area, are moved to a secondary profile known as the "Still Wanted and Not Forgotten" list.

"We are releasing a special poster featuring the 19 still wanted in the hopes that we can get the faces back into the public eye. Perhaps, someone has some information on the location of one of these subjects," said Ofc. Mark Jantz, who maintains the program. He added, "With social media and e-communication being so common, we're counting on the community to share the Still Wanted poster far and wide."

Each poster has a link allowing citizens to provide information by clicking on the subject photo. If tipsters choose, they have the ability to remain anonymous; however, they are encouraged to include their contact information should the investigator have additional questions.

"We have been very fortunate to have had such success thanks to citizens and other law enforcement partners. Yet, it would also be great to be able to apprehend these 19 still wanted fugitives, some who have been on the list since 2011," Jantz said.
