Faces of Oregon war dead

Oregonians from 70 towns have been killed in the fighting overseas...

War dead
In the early years Bush even denied this image to Americans

(PORTLAND) - The Sunday Oregonian rightly welcomed an Oregon Army National Guard battalion home from Afghanistan.

But we need also note that, according to the Pentagon, at least 93 military members who claimed home towns in Oregon have died in the Iraq and AfPak wars. The Oregonian counts 111 because its criteria is that a GI need only have "some tie" to Oregon or SW Washington to be counted.

Click on this New York Times site for photos, names and more detail on the 93 Oregonians www.nytimes.com/interactive/us/faces-of-the-dead.html?scp=2&sq=photos%20of%20all%20US%20dead%20in%20Iraq&st=cse#/adams_danial_r

The dead named 70 hometowns, with some concentration in Portland and its suburbs. Portland 12 dead, Beaverton 5, Corvallis 4, Klamath Falls, Bend, Newport and Pendleton with 3 each, North Bend, Hillsboro, Roseburg, Milwaukie, Albany, Tualtin, Gresham, Monmouth and Sherwood with 2.

The following hometowns each suffered one dead:

My Dear Micheal Munk, I am so sorry to read your article about the faces of Orgeon's War dead. It's appalling when anybody dies in combat for the country especially when the defendant someone else. If you want a story check out Ontonagon County Upper Peninsula of Michigan, during the Vietnam War. The highest one during the time periods of Vietnam turned out to be a small County in Pennsylvania with the most deaths per capita in the United States than any other place. The only reason why they surpassed Ontonagon County is the Defense Department refuse send anymore man from the colony into Vietnam. But a lot of us still went as blue water sailor. There are patriotic people in this United States, the only ones that aren't are politician!
