MySpace Photos of Oregon Mayor Causing Stir in Arlington

(ARLINGTON, Ore.) - It is the "Home of the Honkers" and it is hard to miss the irony. A scantily clad image of the city of Arlington, Oregon's mayor is making the rounds on the Web today after news agencies lifted the image from her public MySpace page.

Arlington, Oregon's Mayor Carmen Kontur Gronquist did what many people do in the new Millennium; she posted images of herself on MySpace wearing lingerie. Maybe posing on a city fire vehicle was pushing it a bit, but then I lived in Las Vegas for five years where calendars feature the city's "sexiest firefighters."

We aren't talking nudity here folks, or overly expressive poses. So far just one image has crossed our desk and it is a sexy but somewhat tasteful photo.

Either way, the mayor is taking heat according to reports posted today as her lightly clad image flies around the Internet. One source, Digg.com, reports that this public official doesn’t care what other people will say about her pictures. Who can blame her? It is a free country last time I checked.

Another source, associatedcontent.com, points to the traditional side of this community of 524 residents that is named for the birthplace of Robert E. Lee. Their article suggests that the MySpace image of Gronquist is a poor fit with the city's rodeo and apple pie image.

Gronquist told the East Oregonian January 5th, that the photos are part and parcel of her personal life, and that they have no bearing on her professional life. Still, it appears that some local residents disagree and instead worry about their town's image as her photo is viewed by the rest of the world.

FOX News reported that the photos were taken some time before Gronquist became the town's Mayor. She has held the office for three years. It appears FOX and the conservative East Oregonian got their shovels out for this one. I am writing about it too, granted, but this strikes me as a matter of interest and not exactly a news story.

The mayor told reporters that there are citizens in the community who are perennially digging up dirt on others - "especially when it is considered salacious - and thus gives little thought to the concerns about residents with respect to the photos."

And there are Arlington residents coming to her aid, calling it a waste of time and a needless focus of attention. The Mayor did not pose nude, there are no allegations of anything other than a picture that could have been taken on a beach and caused little stir. Unless that beach was in Eastern Oregon of course.

For now, the Mayor has set her MySpace page to private. We placed a call to her office and she was not available for comment. If she reaches us we will bring you her remarks.

I'm sorry if I look like that at 42, I would be proud. She is covering as much as a bathing suit. I really dont see the problem. Other then the fact that she is in politics and thats it. Dear City of Arlington OR, I think that it was WRONG for you to have recalled Mayor Kontur-Gronquist, as there is NOTHING wrong with those photos. Good heavens, it's not like she posed nude! Also, since they "were taken for use in a contest about fitness", they were taken for a very good cause, especially with the obesity problem this country faces. The 142 people that voted to recall her really need to get a life! Plus they need look in their own closets and should better suppress the skeletons THEY most likely have in them, because they will certainly show their ugly faces when they least expect it.

The mayor looks to be in great physical condition, and she is beautiful woman. Leave her alone and go do something constructive for your community, not something that blemishes the allure of small town life. Take a look at Meade KS and the turmoil created there by a couple of people then fueled by the local media. The town is now considered a gay bashing community of rednecks which is untrue.

Arlingtons mayor is single. She is no where near anorexic. She's extremely fit. She's very smart and a very strong woman. The majority of people in Arlington realize that the whole picture fiasco is silly. Unfortunately its the portion of self-righteous people making the stink. The person who leaked the photo to the media obviously explained she had posed on a firetruck, otherwise you couldn't even tell. She had inherited a financial mess from the old city administration and she has made strides of improvement to the financial state of the city. Its nothing more than the old group of City gov trying to make a comeback and re-take the throne.

My family had made plans to spend a week in Arlington this spring BUT after seeing and hearing the rukus over Mayor Carmen Kontur Gronquist PERSONAL life, we are waiting to see if she is forced to resign. If she is then we will take our money elsewhere.

Her underclothing covers up more than what most teenagers wear to school these days!!! So whats the big deal? At least she's over 14!!! She looks hot :) I wish I was in such good shape! I think most of the complaints are from overwieght unhappy people who have nothing better to do than harass others for looking good. How many of the complainers spend time looking at porn on the internet? How many of their kids go to school with thier underwear (thongs) showing aove the beltline or the boxers hanging out of the pants? And if the photos were in fact taken BEFORE she took office and she has been a good mayor then why should the pics cast a shadow on her office now? If she is conducting herself properly at work then leave her the hell alone!! If you cant handle a picture on myspace then stay off the site!! Or better yet get rid of your computer cause trust me theres a lot of worse stuff than that on the net. DON'T BE A HATER!!! Just cause your fat!
