Police Arrest Car Thief Suspects in the Act in South Salem‏

A "a high risk vehicle stop" led to the arrests of 19-year old Kyle Wilkins of Salem and 18-year old Levi Wilkins, a transient.

(SALEM, Ore.) - Salem Police responded to the 1800 block of Davis Rd S on a report of a 2000 Honda Accord that had just been stolen from a residential driveway while it was being warmed up. Salem Police Lt. Keith Blair says it happened at 3:55 AM.

"A witness observed the Honda leaving and being followed by another stolen 1993 Mercury Van," Blair said. The van had been stolen sometime during the night from the 200 block of Kashmir Court SE.

While checking the area for the two stolen vehicles, officers say they located the stolen 1993 Mercury Van abandoned at Skyline Road S and Newberry Street S.

Then at 5:48 AM, Officer Lance Diede observed the stolen 2000 Honda Accord at Skyline Rd S and Kuebler Rd S occupied by three males.

Blair says "a high risk vehicle stop" was conducted and two adult males and one male juvenile were taken into custody.

The two adult suspects were 19-year old Kyle Wilkins of Salem and 18-year old Levi Wilkins, a transient.

Blair says all three suspects were charged with two counts of Unauthorized Use of a Vehicle and Unlawful Entry into a Motor Vehicle.

The adult suspects were booked in at the Marion County Correctional Facility.

The juvenile was a listed runaway and lodged at the Marion County Juvenile Detention Center.
