Police Arrest Suspect in Gladstone Stabbing

Initial statements indicate the motive for the attack was probably drug related.

Wayne Dean was arrested for Assault in the First Degree, a Class A Felony.

(GLADSTONE, Ore.) - Police in Gladstone say a person was stabbed in the neck by an acquaintance Friday at about 8:40 PM. The attack occurred on McLoughlin Blvd near Arlington Street in Gladstone.

Investigators say the victim was stabbed in the neck by an acquaintance, named Wayne Richard Dean. The victim is reported to currently be in stable condition at OHSU.

Sgt. Lynne Benton with Gladstone Police says the victim and Wayne Dean's roommate arrived at 19853 River Rd Apartment J Friday evening and after visiting for awhile, the victim left to catch a bus on McLoughlin.

"Wayne Dean followed him and the victim thought Dean was going to the local market. Instead, Dean approached him at the bus stop an plunged a knife in the victim's neck."

Benton says the victim fell to the ground and was struck and kicked several times while on the ground.

"The victim was able to to get back up and ran to Shari's in the Oregon City Shopping Center to summon help. Dean left in the direction of the apartment complex."

Oregon City detectives were able to locate the suspect the following day and Dean was arrested and charged with Assault in the First Degree, a Class A Felony. He was lodged in the Clackamas County Jail. He will be arraigned this week in Circuit Court in Oregon City.
