Medical Marijuana; The Oregonian and the Safest Medicine Ever Discovered (Part Two)

(MOLALLA, Ore.) - I thank the Oregonian Newspaper for reports about dangerous drugs and more dangerous combinations in their story of December 24th, 2008.

The story points out that 50 million Americans are at risk. This is true because about 100 thousand patients die each year from medical misadventures which strangely enough are caused by their doctors.

Doctors aren’t supposed to know everything and Pharmacology or the science of the action of drugs usually doesn’t have a concurrent course of Therapeutics which is specific for which drug for THE specific disease.

I say this because I lectured Pharmacology for 25 years and Therapeutics was supposed to be taught elsewhere but never was.

Almost every medication has adverse side effects and it is usually these side effects which kill patients. A doctor will say “take one, if that doesn’t work take two”.

The patient often thinks if two is ok why not three. This could be lethal.

Pharmacists who sell the medications COULD BE the traffic cops to advise patients but very few have any medical education as such and are not much help beyond the medicine package inserts which most patients AND pharmacists regard as gobbledygook and ignore – bad idea.

Even TV ads about medicines say to ask your physician. Don’t be fooled – you rarely can talk to your doctor over the phone and you’ll be lucky to see him for 5 minutes in an office visit.

The article quotes a Professor of Geriatric Medicine at The University of Massachusetts Medical School “for the patient to be in close contact with their doctor”.

This is laughable if it weren’t so serious.

After being in the medical field for about 60 years as a student, Professor and patient, I know of only one medicine – marijuana/cannabis which is not dangerous or lethal and can also be used safely with almost any other medicine.
