State Trooper Avoids Injury in Crash Near Myrtle Point

(MYRTLE POINT, Ore.) - The Coos County Sheriff's Office is investigating a Wednesday afternoon traffic crash involving an Oregon State Police trooper on Highway 42 about five miles east of Myrtle Point. The trooper was not injured and the other involved driver received non-life threatening injuries.

According to a Coos County Sheriff's Office news release, Wednesday at approximately 5:41 PM, OSP Trooper Freddie Dunlap was eastbound enroute to a reported three vehicle crash on Highway 42 near the Coos / Douglas county line.

A westbound vehicle driven by 88-year old Heucherotch of Coos Bay, lost control for an unknown reason, crossed the centerline and collided with the OSP patrol car.

Trooper Dunlap was using safety restraints and was not injured, while Ms. Heucherotch was transported to Coquille Valley Hospital with reportedly non-life threatening injuries.

The investigation is being done by the Coos County Crash Team with the assistance of OSP. Additional help at the scene provided by Bridge First Responders, Myrtle Point Fire & Ambulance, and ODOT.

The headline says the Trooper is injured, the article says twice he is not. I hope he is OK.

Editor: Our mistake, the trooper was not injured.
