Bill O'Reilly's Pants Are on Fire

O'Reilly's brand of medicine cures few but ails many, and I predict that his span of days on the air are numbered.

(SALEM, Ore.) - I was instantly reminded by media pundit Bill O'Reilly on New Year's Day, how easily human belief systems are swayed when confronted with believable lies. It isn't about politics or viewpoints or left or right, this guy creates a fictitious reality and then shares it with people over the airwaves.

People believe what is not true, and at the end of the day Americans who listened to him knew a little less instead of more. Things aren't supposed to work that way. Americans shouldn't be tasked with having to relearn information that O'Reilly falsely communicated to them in the first place.

O'Reilly and other hard driving right leaning talk show hosts will say anything to inject that influence and they do it without rules or barriers. To many, that doesn't seem like the action of a true conservative.

What he said New Year's Day stemmed from another story, which involved middle school age girls on the east coast whose nude pictures were posted on the Internet. O'Reilly said, "You can go to any beach in America and find young girls, 12-13 years old, with piercings and tattoos, smoking openly, and doing other things- in full public view."

So let's slow down and go to square one. Ask yourself if you have ever, ever gone to a public beach and observed little girls of that age even with tattoos? Then there are the piercings, the smoking and his other implication which was suggesting "open" drug use I assumed.

I have surfed for most of my life, I admit that I have insight that others lack, but the picture O'Reilly describes, like something from a bad Hollywood movie, (or fantasy Bill?) is not something I have ever observed at a beach in California or Oregon. I've seen piercings, tattoos, cigarettes and plenty of young girls, but rarely in one package.

In fact, most kids at the beach are looking for a tan and a swim, some waves and maybe a party, but O'Reilly's description of "what anybody can see at any public beach" and suggestion that the kids are all running rampant must be alarming to the farmers in Kansas.

Are the police officers and lifeguards of our coastal cities slacking off on the job?

O'Reilly is clearly trying to influence the minds of people where there are no beaches, what color are those states again? He wants people to believe evil things about the west coast and the east coast as well, and farmers in the Midwest know beach state culture as well as they know the lyrics to the Red Hot Chili Peppers' latest release. They believe O'Reilly's negativity, they don't know any better.

I've written about this character before and I know people are dedicated fans, but why? I can't figure out what the appeal is. Years ago he worked for my former TV station in Portland, Oregon, KATU Channel-2. There are horror stories about his time working there. O'Reilly was in the newsroom several years before I was, I can tell you that he isn't fondly remembered by but a spare few.

If lying were a martial art, O'Reilly would be a 10th degree black belt. He made the statement before that American soldiers in WWII killed "unarmed Nazi guards" at Malmedy, Belgium when in fact, 84 American Army prisoners of war were gunned down by the Nazi's.

Some people take the approach that O'Reilly is entertaining because he is so outrageous but I can't accept that in my personal life. I think in terms of truth and non-truth and I can't go to square two if square one isn't being straight with me. Funny how the term "square" so easily found its way into this article, just a natural word when describing this media baboon.

I hope his listeners and viewers catch on sooner or later, and that they listen to their hearts more than this know-it-all who in reality, knows only how to argue and win at all costs and bolster his ratings.

Perhaps O'Reilly represents the thinking of a previous generation to a degree, but this is a new time and the only way people are going to come together and improve this already endangered world is by broadening the spectrum of their thinking. It starts with their choice of a radio station, Website or TV station. Sometimes that choice should be to simply turn it off.

O'Reilly's brand of medicine cures few but ails many, and I predict that his span of days are numbered and maybe some day we can reel all of this nonsense back in and hold people accountable for the false information they choose to spread.

The part about girls on the beaches is just one small sidenote of that day's program, but it is all it takes to see how ridiculous it is to try and take anything from O'Reilly seriously. There are too many problems on this earth for people who do nothing but spread polarity in our society while feeding the "fear of children" mentality.

Am I endorsing censorship? Heck yes if you have to call it that, but only if people are not held accountable by their own broadcast companies for spreading lies to the public and unduly influencing them.

There is a reason that screaming "fire" in a theatre goes beyond free speech, and there is a reason that the FCC should take action over rules that I understand actually already exist, but are not enforced.

If a broadcaster makes a mistake or slips up, that is a different case. Here we are talking about a well established pattern of spreading lies and false information. It isn't acceptable to allow O'Reilly to just make things up in his head and present them as fact. At the very least he should be mandated to issue retractions at the direction of a disciplinary board and taken off the air.

"Godofchaos we simply have a different interpretation."Jefferson True. "Fortunately a process is underway that will provide more light to this topic to the general public, then allow them to make their own individual evaluation."Jefferson How so? (Curious tone) BTW sorry for my misunderstanding comment when I reread my post it came of as condescending and know that was neither my goal or intentions.

Jefferson January 8, 2008 1:37 pm (Pacific time)

Godofchaos we simply have a different interpretation. My concern is the "blackout" that has happened re: this war crime. It also has fed into other histoical flows that have and are causing us harm, but thanks for your input. Fortunately a process is underway that will provide more light to this topic to the general public, then allow them to make their own individual evaluation.

Godsofchaos January 8, 2008 12:42 pm (Pacific time)

Though I agree with you on Israels attack on the USS liberty ,as did Tim King I read his article, I think you misunderstand something. "How does Israel pay us back?" How about being one of the biggest Islamic terrorist magnet in the world.I think that ability should not be underestimated. The reason we give all that money is from a military stand point it is brilliant. For each terrorist that attacks the Jewish state means one less terrorist for us to deal with. That is what the Green Brays were created for. I think their called force multipliers. So I disagree that they are using us I think we are using them. As for paying them back remember when Jimmy Carter made Israel give back all that hard fought land as part of the weapons deal. I think America has been paying them back for their treacherous actions against us. As for being questionable allies it comes with the territory. George Washington warned us about uncertainty of allies in his Farewell Address (1796).

Jefferson January 7, 2008 6:08 pm (Pacific time)

Regarding the statement by feldman (an anti-Gentile?), that "most" of the victims of the war crime against the USS Liberty by feldman's people(?) are now dead is fortunately wrong. Does feldman simply want all these hero's dead? As it is people, these men have children, grandchildren and more and more people are getting on board to inform people about these anti-Gentile racist's. This upcoming Spring term at two Oregon state colleges two professors are providing significant class time on this war crime. They (student's) may also get extra credit by doing a paper that theorizes why Hollywood has not made a movie about this crime. Can you the reader come up with your own theory? Maybe feldman (an anti-Gentile?) can answer that...yeah, don't hold your breath America! Since 1948 we have given Israel over one trillion dollars in financial aid and military equipment (when you compute simple interest of it's value over time)...this money could have gone to our veterans. How does Israel pay us back? With murder, spying (recall the Rosenbergs, Pollard, etc.) and other foul acts. Then we have people of feldman's ilk who say that anyone who informs people of these eregious acts are anti-Semites? What is their true agenda?!

Jefferson January 7, 2008 5:50 pm (Pacific time)

People the below stats say a lot on how American's vote with their time and money. People the below post is what I was referring to by feldman, he had posted it onto a site that did not reflect the below observations... Neal Feldman January 7, 2008 10:43 am (Pacific time) Jefferson - Ah I see you are still ranting and raving re: the USS Liberty thing. Grow up. It happened 40 yrs aho, no amount of ranting and raving o your part will change anythig, most involved are likely dead now anyway and to use it as you clearly do to try and veil your blatant anti-Antisemitism and hostility towards Israel is feeble and pathetic. The US govt has worked with (and even created) some of the biggest despots on the planet. Remember SoDamn Insane? He was a creation of the US. Noriega too. And the contras that your hero the criminal Oliver North aided were as bad as well. And he also put weapons into Iranian hands only a few years after they had taken over our embassy and Congress had forbidden such actions. But like I said before you have a very odd definition of 'hero'. Ah well...

Jefferson January 7, 2008 11:30 am (Pacific time)

People as per my below post at 9:54 am(1-7-08). Please read and see how feldman's post makes my point. Is feldman an anti-Gentile? Why is he trying to diminish this vile and violent war crime? Why does he not refute the ongoing lethal torture of Israel and their apartheid behaviors? Is it because he has joint citizenship with Israel? Anyway people, simply go to www.ussliberty.com take a few minutes and look at the website. The below is a quote from that website that shows what individuals like feldman are all about." Will he respond? No, he will avoid the issue and continue with his relentless eating... "Nonetheless, the legion of pro-Israel, anti-American apologists, while small, makes up for its lack of numbers and inability to mount any kind of legitimate defense by launching loud, vicious ad hominem attacks on anyone who attempts to raise the issue of the attack being deliberate. These anti-American apologists refuse to discuss the facts of the case. Rather they rely on "big lie" propaganda and attack anyone who questions the Israeli position as being "anti-Semitic". " For detailed information about the power of the pro-Israel lobby, please read The Israel Lobby and US Foreign Policy. See also, The Pro-Israel Lobby. Neal Feldman January 7, 2008 10:43 am (Pacific time) Jefferson - Ah I see you are still ranting and raving re: the USS Liberty thing. Grow up. Jefferson January 7, 2008 9:54 am (Pacific time)

Tim I did not read your story, but I knew of the attack as it was happening, located thousands of miles away (atmospheric radio wave skip phenom). I also sat in on an interview with several survivors and heard their story's which were still fresh in their memories. They of course were not aware of the bigger picture, i.e. , the reason for this criminal attack (they are now!) Note: The captain of the Liberty received the Congressional Medal of Honor people--good movie material?. I also was involved in exposing several Americans from Oregon who were involved in this attack while serving with the Israeli's...they moved before they could be properly investigated (four attended high school in Portland and received bogus medical deferrments from the same MD who moved to Isreal) Note: One can only wonder how many other Americans, with possible joint citizenship and security clearances were involved?! I would suggest that the uss.liberty.com website does provide an excellent account of events. What one of my beef's has been, is how even college instructor's going back to 1968 (my personal observation) were being called anti-Semite for teaching aout this war crime, even threatened to have their funding cut (one was tenured). There has been a consistent pattern of denial and threats to this day when people within the educational community bring up this subject. I will also point out there have been some successful lawsuits (slander) promulgated by accusations of being anti-Semite. I had earlier posted that Hollywood not making a film about this war crime says a great deal about this community. Calling someone anti-Semite, or any other name when they bring up facts, historical or otherwise, simply exposes these name-callers for what they are...

Henry Ruark January 6, 2008 4:18 pm (Pacific time)

To all: Tim King wrote the Liberty story, in his usual inimitable, honest, revealing style --and with striking photos to illustrate, too. That was one which encouraged me to write as was possible for S-N --and I have never regretted that decision. It details with depth and decency, and leaves one, after "seeing with own eyes", to use "own brain", and make own evaluations of the complex forces at work when nations quarrel.

Tim Kief="http://salem-news.com/arti January 6, 2008 2:42 pm (Pacific time)

With regard to the U.S.S. Liberty, I wrote an article September 13th 2006, The Day Israel Attacked the United States that goes over many points surrounding the events of that day. For those just joining in, the U.S.S. Liberty was an American Naval vessel that was repeatedly attacked by Israel during the Six Day War in 1967. I wasn't there, I'm not old enough to have been, but I have spent a decent amount of time with this story and I've been in contact with many of the sailors who were aboard the Liberty that day.

Israel's actions were highly suspect in my opinion, and it isn't racist or anti-semitic to say so. If American sailors say the U.S. flag was flying high, which they do, then I believe them and the buck stops. I do not believe the Israeli pilots' word over that of my own countrymen. Notice if you visit this story, how it was instantly attacked by pro-Israeli interests. Notice also that there are comments from the sailors who were actually aboard. If nothing else in my opinion, people need to know about the encounter and they can draw their own conclusions.

Henry Ruark January 6, 2008 10:33 am (Pacific time)

To all: Don't miss revealing further details re the North interview, under Biden story. No wonder North negating any possible part in explosive new situation here, "hero" that he is !!

Henry Ruark January 5, 2008 1:54 pm (Pacific time)

N-N rapidly transmitted mine re North to his ostensible friend, hero-ized here despite great significance of Iran-Contra to ongoing tragedy of Iraq and continued threat of Iran conflict to boot. Happens now can offer him three-station deal for North interview, if he can produce anything but avoidance of the issue he himself raised. Also still await his Op ED or series of them, with "see with own eyes" links for all to use and then evaluate "with own brain" rather than swallow his behind-tree sniping and demand for credibility made impossible by that continued denial of responsibility and accountability.

Bandini January 5, 2008 12:57 pm (Pacific time)

O'reilly is popular because he plays into the narrative that the media is bias and you need to get your information from a tell like it is guy. A lot of conservatives believe this is true and buy into it. That is why they get their actual news from talk radio and conservative pundits. Authoritarian personalities albiet even mild ones tend to look for the big personality figure that is "looking out for you" It's a daddy complex, someone to idolize. O'reilly's audience is not savy enough to look for propaganda. He is in fact what they've always been looking for, someone to tell them how it is. So they don't question it, they question the straight up news man you as they see it, doesn't tell them how it is.

Jefferson January 5, 2008 8:57 am (Pacific time)

People please note how Henry/SFI has begun to parallel early (very early) grammar school verbiage. Poor dear. P.S. He has so deluded himself that he thinks LTC Oliver North (Ret.) would want to converse with him. What on earth for? SFI, why not channel Marx for us?! P.S.S. Thanks for the lyrics. You just keep'em coming...

Henry Ruark January 5, 2008 5:41 am (Pacific time)

His blundering statement adds that much more evidence. "Never wrong !", publicly stated, is long recognized as specific symptom for psychotic deterioration, not uncommon in SOME old geeks. Which is why I continue professional practice of each year exam certifying continuing "normalcy",whatever that may now mean in our deteriorating culture, forced on us by neocon manipulation, especially through corporate culture built on crony capitalism. "See with own eyes" simply by observing all around you, "document" by civilized conversation with your colleagues, friends, associates, and especially your family, seeking some needed situations you are denied the privilege of giving to them by what neocon economic policies has ALREADY done to you, heading first to fascism and then, their final destination, to feudalism. "Lord of the Manor" N-N hates newspapers, especially honest ones, because they are still largest threat his cabal will ever face...

Henry Ruark January 4, 2008 5:55 pm (Pacific time)

N-N: Watch out for squirrels, under that same tree. They'll attack nuts wherever found, and if on limb-above can find other ways to punish, too. Still no word from Pal Col. North ? Wonder why...could it be he's watching out same as squirrels ?? I'm SERIOUS...would dearly love to have shot with him, you will pardon word or sub as you see fit...

Julie January 4, 2008 4:44 pm (Pacific time)

to Dr. Who... what are you talking about? So 13 year olds on other US beaches are allowed this behavior? Give me a break.

Jefferson January 4, 2008 3:36 pm (Pacific time)

People I guess Henry/TFI did not like the update I made to set the record straight regarding his earlier posts about the Wall Street Journal and Steiger, an individual that may be a legend to some, but not to conservative journalists who prefer fact over his peculiar "style"...like TFI...who sure likes to tell us how ignorant we are and how bright he is. There is a name for this behavior on his part...maybe he can tell you, as if you already don't know. Columbia at one time was probably one of the best universities on the planet, but that was a long long time ago. Though there is a young lady journalist on FOX News who has her own show that recently finished her graduate degree at Columbia, so maybe there is hope.

Henry Ruark January 4, 2008 2:53 pm (Pacific time)

To all: For truth offsetting forked tongue distortions from N-N, see entire issue American Journalism Review, Oct./Nov. 07; and several preceding issues of Columbia Journalism Review. They show clearly progress already being made not only to preserve dailies but to make sure they now broaden reach, restrengthen staffs, and move rapidly into 21st Century mode long recognized, but only possible now with demanded management and fiscal changes. All part of trends explored in past two years here via Op Eds. CJR=Columbia University; AJR U/Maryland. I've been subscriber, intermittent writer, for both ever since early 70s. With three sons active in profession, can promise you have insight never otherwise available. How many kids you got at work in journalism, N-N ? What role have you ever played in practical news work anywheres ? SO why should we listen to determined Nonentity, still so frightened as to hide behind tree, and never, ever, agree to write own Op Ed --or to set up interview with "hero" North whose acquaintance you claim, with superior, snide remark that he might have made it in one of your commands ? OR is that relationship so wellknown to him that he wont bother to answer you ?

Henry Ruark January 4, 2008 2:26 pm (Pacific time)

To all: My Dad was investigative reporter on Mencken's daily, The Baltimore SUN, so citing that famous writer-editor here for your information: "The whole aim of practical politics is to keep the populace alarmed -- and thus clamorous to be led to safety -- by menacing it with an endless series of hobgoblins, all of them imaginary." --- H.L. Mencken 1880-1956 American journalist, satarist, social critic, anti-establishment figure, considered by scholars as one of America's greatest writers, known as 'The Sage of Baltimore.'

Henry Ruark January 4, 2008 2:21 pm (Pacific time)

To all: Damned right Steiger is "no conservative". He's among most respected journalist of this half-century. Re billionaire money, Reagan era was afloat with it after he sold out to GE and allowed secret "hero"-types like North run amuck in situation like Iran-Contra, root of our rapacious lies-based war now. Again you speak with forked tongue --what else is forked with you ? Any word from North re our promised interview ??

Jefferson January 4, 2008 11:20 am (Pacific time)

People the print media is leaving... Mr. Parr, the Jupiter newspaper analyst, said: “There is absolutely no question that the next 10 years are going to be really bad for the newspaper business,” he said. “This is a time of wrenching change and chaos. All of our assumptions about newspapers are going to be changed. The format, the business model, the organization of newspapers have outlived their usefulness.”

Jefferson January 4, 2008 11:00 am (Pacific time)

Henry/TFI exposed, once again. Regarding Paul Steiger who Henry/TFI has been trumpeting. He is no conservative and just read about his new so-called investigative website and who is funding it!: "A new and supposedly nonpartisan news agency named ProPublica is about to start offering free of charge its "investigative journalism" created with "moral force" to newspapers and other news sources soon and so far the announcement has been met with favorable coverage by the MSM. But, ProPublica is being funded by a pair of left-wing billionaires responsible for funding such groups as the Center for American Progress and MoveOn.org and other far left Democrat backing organizations, yet the MSM seems unconcerned that highly partisan, left-wing backers are funding this effort. Somehow, the MSM can't imagine that any leftist bias could possibly infect this new "news" agency. Now, imagine how the MSM would be clicking tongues if a news agency were to be founded by a well-known conservative. Imagine how the MSM would be throwing around the word "bias" with abandon and how they would assume right off the bat that such a new news agency couldn't possibly be a real news source because the founder of it was a conservative. Would the opposite situation elicit such clucking? Would the MSM scoff at the claim of non-partisan reporting if a left-wing activist started a news agency?" NOTE: The TFI claims the Wall Street Journal was a conservative newspaper people: Myth! The editorial section was, but the news section ran by Steiger was not, and he even addmitted it via his actions. Please TFI, let's be open and above board. Thanks buddy.

Henry Ruark January 4, 2008 10:49 am (Pacific time)

To all: Again, from N-N, misleading and irrelevant "information", intended to seem responsive while avoiding realities. Trends-mentioned re dailies affecting all same-way, all across nation. Most pressures causing due to corporate and rapacious owners protecting stock short-term prices, at cost of human-attack on staff numbers, pay, and benefits. Neocon national policis forcing large lossses in what we enjoyed for years from the media. N-N hides identity, full proof of proper responsibility, accountability, since to show face from behind tree kills off any continuing credibility and may cause loss of neocon position he values much more than the truth-here. I.e., he lies in his teeth, constantly, as continuing responses here have demonstrated now over some time and many points. Americans know and appreciate all too well that kind of action-continued.

Jefferson January 4, 2008 8:52 am (Pacific time)

Your right Dr. Who, there are certainly differences in conduct in different parts of the country. Compare and contrast so-called "red" areas with "blue" areas. Remarkable differences, remarkable.

Henry Ruark January 4, 2008 5:10 am (Pacific time)

To all: You will note that N-N/s fallacious summary re daily newspaper trends was rapidly answered by actual words from one of the most experienced journalists extant today. Steiger is leaving the WSJ because it was surrendered to Murdoch influence. He will lead a new, powerful group dedicated to longtime investigative tradition. That should tell you, now, something re "progressive" forward surge in this nation, putting at risk all that the neocons have secured by their "noise machine" at work for the past thirty years.

Dr. Who January 3, 2008 10:17 pm (Pacific time)

Maybe Bill was talking about beaches outside of Oregon and Washington where girls don't strip down and get nasty like on other beaches? Maybe Tim needs to go outside of Oregon to a beach in Florida?

Henry Ruark January 3, 2008 2:40 pm (Pacific time)

To all: Mt last was sent prematurely and incomplete. Rather than repeat, here's Paul Steiger, 40-year veteran at WStJrnl, surely no socialist !, telling it like it really is, reflecting same trends reported here in Op Eds for two years now...: Home : News : From Wall Street Journal, December 29, 2007 By Paul E. Steiger It was the fall of 1999, and the newspaper I edited, The Wall Street Journal, was awash in money. Thanks to the dot-com boom and the lush advertising it generated, we were running the presses at full tilt nearly every day, yet had to turn away ads for lack of space. Even as the good times rolled, two non-newspaper names kept coming up. I recall being stunned to learn that the main place where our own readers checked stock prices was the finance section of Yahoo. A couple of kids from Stanford had launched a search engine called Google. Already, many of my colleagues were using it. Less than six months later, the tech bubble began to deflate. Hundreds of dot-coms died, taking with them their ad budgets. But the Web industry pushed forward, and within a few years it shredded newspaper business models that had held sway for decades. That high-tech jolt to my industry wasn’t something I could have imagined on the July day in 1966 when I walked into a factory-like building in San Francisco to start work as a 23-year-old reporter for the Journal. Vintage Linotype machines spat out hot-metal versions of stories a line at a time. An industry of family-owned newspapers was setting off on a momentous period of growing power and profit. On Thursday I’ll pack my last box and take leave of a place where I’ve spent 26 of my 41 years in journalism, including 16 as managing editor of the Journal. (The other 15 years, 1968 to 1983, I was a reporter and then business editor at the Los Angeles Times.) Today, all around me is an industry in upheaval, with slumping revenues and stocks, layoffs, and takeovers of publishers that a decade ago seemed impregnable. Just this month, Rupert Murdoch’s News Corp. completed its acquisition of Dow Jones and Co., the Journal’s publisher, and real-estate magnate Sam Zell gained effective control of Tribune Co. The Journal’s editors have asked me to retrace my experiences of the past four decades in search of insights into how all this has happened, what may happen next and the implications of all this change for readers, the nation and society at large. For readers, the implications are clear: a stark contrast of feast and famine. The cornucopia of national, international and business news, sports, and especially opinion available free on the Web is rich beyond historical parallel. Anyone with a fact, a comment, a snapshot or a video clip can self-publish and instantly compete with the professionals. At the same time, the vast array of investigative reporting and foreign correspondence assembled at American newspapers over the past several decades is being cut back at all but a few publications, as papers succumb to the pressure to cut costs. Many journalists and academics see in these cutbacks a threat to the democratic ideal of a well-informed public. Some urge turning to philanthropy or an expansion of public television as a way to fill the gap. Others have begun to argue for a government subsidy for newspapers — an unlikely prospect for now. For more on how allathis came about, see Paul Starr's "The Creation of the Media: Political Origins of Modern Communications";2004;ISBN 0-465-08193-2. That one won the Pulitzer Prize -- most pleasing to me since I had interviewed him long ago in Chicago. SO tune into right channel and you will get straight story...which, now, you can then check rapidly via Internet, too. Happens to be fact that even with wring-out under way for dailies, newspaper industry still was knocking off up to twenty percent return on investments, per FCC information recently, which I will confirm and report here asap....

Jefferson January 3, 2008 12:40 pm (Pacific time)

Henry/TFI's reaction is why I am so glad for the internet and Fox news channel, even Lou Dobbs. Now we truely do have a "see with your own eyes" situation developing and getting stronger. People the press is losing subscribers and the broadcater's are losing audiences, but the conservative news sources are growing, ergo, Americans are becoming informed, albeit slowly, but at least we have a truth tonic available to provide some immunity from the diversions and the half-truths we have been getting. Sorry [not really] Henry/TFI, America knows you!

Henry Ruark January 3, 2008 11:33 am (Pacific time)

NOW it is the "mainstream media" here made the scapegoat by N-N. But the real reason for most of what has happened to all-such is, very simply, the reign of owner-enforced policy and operations severely now limiting much, if not most, of what independent editors and reporters used to do, driven by journalistic tradition. The near-death of true and strong investigative reporting is one of the major goals of all neocon informational philosophy, demanded since reality is death to them whenever the public is awake enough to comprehend by learning "with own eyes and mind." That's planned consequence from 30 years of GOP/neocon "noise machine" machinations and malicious distortion and perversion of realities, from which far too many citizens are now brain-washed by repetition and suppressed reforming response to react as free, responsible and accountable themselves. A long list of books, reports, studies and similar authoritative statements is on record, many by those actually involved themselves in that "noise machine", and now repenting and seeking remedial action by self-report to the public. (List on request to Editor with ID.) Recent postings right here in this channel confirm the kind of retaliation which has now become a main weapon of neocon drive to monopolize and somehow further manipulate open, honest and democratic channels wherever they may appear, by paid shill if needed. Major writers in journalism for 50 years have been warning against precisely this very damaging development which currently presents great danger to our democracy.

Tim I agree with much of what you say, but O'Reilly is not the only one who obscures facts for whatever reason? Certainly Dan Rather is a good example in terms of a big fish from a large network being exposed and released, but he is back once again, though his audience is smaller. Chris Mathews, Olberman, MSNBC, NBC, CBS, ABC,CNN, New York Times, Washington Post and on and on, certainly have significant accuracy problems, so to speak. People simply need to be skeptical. Frankly I find the so-called mainstream news media as being far more dangerous than some cable hack who in overall population outreach is much smaller than the MSM by a big margin.

Maybe by 'piercings' he means ears? And I'm not entirely sure but is it even legal in any state even with parental consebt for 12 yr olds to get tattoos? Maybe he means those 'temporary tattoos'? But true this guy tends to stretch the truth past the breaking point... usually starting with his laughable 'no spin zone' BS. He spins like a top and there is no doubt of it. And then there are his little ambush interviews and his targeted pogroms against individual judges, professors or other public figures. He seems far more like Goebbels than anything else recently seen. Ah well...
