(SALEM) - Deleting That Doldrum Daze: A Skeptic's Lament is written by Salem-News.com writer, B. Lee Coyne (Bard at Large).

Salem-News.com is one of the few news agencies in the world that carries poetry, so enjoy this lively and thoughtful piece from Lee and let it be food for thought.

What's the issue bugging, dude?

Could it be unwelcome mood?
You convey a slight impression --
You're engulfed, lo, by Depression

Certainly it can add to strife
And, in fact, disrupt your life
If it's major type, two weeks
Will consume you, as it speaks:

"You will feel mighty sad,
Rather hopeless, rarely glad
Things that you had once enjoyed
Shall be otherwise deployed

"Worthlessness may then prevail,
Stealing wind beneath your sail
Whatever life you may have built
May upside-down be turned to guilt

"Nightmares now preempt your dream
A challenge to your self-esteem
Depression in its grip will keep
You from obtaining ample sleep

"Many nights you toss and turn
Social links you're apt to spurn
A daily downer's situation
Presents a lack of concentration

"Little things shall irritate --
You wonder: When will this abate?
Appetite is soon affected,
Old eating habits are rejected

"If feeling too much loss of pride
Your thoughts can turn to suicide"
A counterforce says--in reply:
"Medicines are worth a try

"And counseling in one you trust
Can help remove this mental rust
Exercise dilutes the mess
By extricating extra stress!"

The answer is things can improve
And you can leave your sullen groove
Depression brought under control
Can re-invent your aching soul

What a difference that can make;
Yours is that choice of step to take
So reach out to a counselor-friend
And gain a better life to spend.
