Numerous Agencies Respond to Silverton Over Report of Armed Man

Shooting investigation

(SILVERTON, OR) - UPDATE: Two people were alive and serious Emmanuel Legacy one at Silverton Hospital. Suspect was shot by a deputy, so Keizer Police are taking the lead in the investigation. Silverton was highly disrupted, Silverton Road is still closed from east of Silver Spur Park to Brush Creek Road.

A report of an armed man with a high powered rifle in the Silver Spur RV park, located at 12622 Silverton Rd NE, in Silverton around 2 p.m. today drew a major law enforcement response. Details are scarce but a press release from the Marion County Sheriff's Office is expected soon.

The Statesman Journal newspaper reports that an 80-year old man was arrested in connection with the shooting, and that he was armed with both a pistol and a rifle.

A witness who is a local business owner, says there were many shots and according to reports that are unconfirmed at this point, at least two people were injured and transported from the scene by a life flight helicopter.

A reporter in the area said gunshots were loud and prevalent upon their arrival. One school was locked down.

A representative from the Silver Spur RV Park told Salem-News they can't comment at this time due to the ongoing investigation.

We do know that the Marion County Sheriff's Office was assisted at the scene by Mount Angel Police, Silverton Police, Salem Police, Oregon State Police, and City of Woodburn Police.

At this point the scene seems to be contained but Silverton Road is still closed. We will bring you more information as soon as it is available.
