(SANTIAM PASS, Ore.) - Oregon State Police troopers are continuing an investigation into a two vehicle serious injury traffic crash Saturday morning on Highway 22 on Santiam Pass.

OSP Senior Trooper Gary Martin says that around 11:00 AM, a sport utility vehicle driven by 21-year old Ronald Boen of Silverton, was eastbound on Highway 22 near milepost 81 when it lost control on the icy roadway and collided head-on with a westbound passenger car driven by 60-year old Lona Marie Hale of Bend.

Lona Hale was reportedly seriously injured and trapped in the vehicle until emergency personnel arrived on scene and extricated her. She was transported by air-ambulance to St. Charles Medical Center in Bend.

Ronald Boen was transported by ground ambulance to St. Charles Medical Center for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.

Both drivers were using safety restraints and both vehicles' airbags deployed.

OSP troopers from the Bend Area Command office are continuing the investigation. Additional assistance was provided at the scene by USFS Law Enforcement personnel, Linn County Sheriff's Office, and ODOT.

The roadway was closed for about two hours while emergency responders provided medical care and investigated the crash.
