(SEATTLE, Wash.) - It was a busy weekend for Coast Guard rescue crews over the weekend in both Oregon and Washington. The story serves as a good reminder of how treacherous NW waters can become, and how frequently the Coast Guard is able to complete lifesaving rescues.

The Coast Guard reports rescuing a 73-year old man near Coos Bay, Oregon, Sunday. A Coast Guard watchstander at the Coos Bay lookout tower spotted a vessel overturned and a man in the water around 2:15 p.m.

Station Coos Bay immediately launched a motor lifeboat crew to the scene. The man was rescued and transferred to an awaiting ambulance at Station Coos Bay.

Station Coos Bay is in the mouth of Coos Bay and is the seventh largest port on the West Coast.

Surfers Rescued at Grays Harbor

The Coast Guard rescued two surfers near the south jetty of Grays Harbor, Washington Sunday. A spokesperson with the Coast Guard Station Grays Harbor, says they received a report around 1:00 p.m. that a 56-year old man and a 14-year old girl were in distress.

A motor lifeboat crew was able to rescue both surfers and bring them back to Station Grays Harbor.

Grays Harbor is a large commercial and recreational fishing port located in the middle of the town of Westport, Wash.
