(SALEM) - After a busy morning in the capitol with many meetings about college and financial aid budgets students didn’t feel they were being fully heard. So they took to the capitol halls.

“The message students are sending may not be uplifting but it is the reality we are facing today. We think this is a more accurate pledge for today” said Tiffany Dollar OSA Board of Director’s Chairwoman from Portland State University.

Oregon Student Pledge “I pledge allegiance to the flag of the mighty state of Oregon and to our colleges for which we stand one system under shrinking budgets with millions in debt and unemployment for all. No investment? No advancement!”

“We are asking that the legislature fund the Oregon Opportunity grant by supporting the co-chair’s budget and increasing the number of students receiving the grant, and that the 3.5% holdbacks be returned to community colleges and universities as well.” said Jake Falldorf, OSA Board of Directors member from Southern Oregon University.

February 21st – “At 12:50 pm students will deliver a resounding message in the capitol galleria ‘No investment, no advancement!’” explained Mario Parker-Milligan OSA Board of Directors member and Student Body President at Lane Community College. He continued, “After a morning in the capitol, meeting with legislators about our budget requests and the struggles we are facing to pay for our college education we are still not sure that we are being heard.”

“The message students are sending may not be uplifting but it is the reality we are facing today. We think this is a more accurate pledge for today” said Tiffany Dollar OSA Board of Director’s Chairwoman from Portland State University.

While legislators are heading to 1pm committees, students will be standing right there reciting the pledge that we think represents the current state of post-secondary education in Oregon.
