(TUSTIN, CA) - Writer and artist Kobina Wright, pays tribute to the Swedish writer, director and producer Ingmar Bergman’s 1973 film, Cries and Whispers. This year marks the 40th anniversary of the film’s release (March 5th, 1973). Wright’s tribute, posted on her blog, The Wrighter, is in the form of the poem titled, “Mind Cries and Swedish Whispers.” Gabe Taverney wrote this of the movie on IMdb.com: In turn-of-the-century Sweden, cancer-stricken, dying Agnes is visited in her isolated rural mansion by her sisters Karin and Maria. As Agnes' condition deteriorates and pain management becomes increasingly more difficult, fear and revulsion grip the sisters, who seem incapable of empathy, and Agnes' only comfort and solace comes from her maid Anna. As the end draws closer, long repressed feelings of grudging resentment and mistrust cause jealousy, selfishness, and bitterness between the siblings to surface. Wright is a Southern California native with a BA in Communications from California State University, Fullerton. She has written several books including “Raise the Red Teddy: A Single Mother’s Guide to Dating;” “The Hodaoa-Anibo Dictionary;” “50” and “A Crime And A Simplification of Something Sublime.” Last year her work was published by the literary magazine, Main Street Rag. This year more of her literary work is scheduled to be published in The Bicycle Review. Her art work will also be featured in The Boxcar Review this April. Wright recently finished an artist residency in Chiang Mai, Thailand in December 2012. To read Wright’s poem “Mind Cries and Swedish Whispers” on The Wrighter, go to: http://www.thewrighteronline.
