The 13th Amendment will Prolong the Sufferings of the Tamils

(MELBOURNE) - The 13th Amendment was a clause in the Indo-Sri Lankan Accord, signed by the Prime Minister of India, Rajiv Gandhi and President Jayawardene of Sri Lanka in July 1987 to bring an end to the armed conflict in Sri Lanka between the Sri Lankan armed forces and the Tamil Tigers. Often referred to as a cunning fox, Jayawardene, wanted India to disarm the Tamil militants, especially the Tamil Tigers and Rajiv Gandhi fell into the trap.

Rajiv Gandhi was no match for Jayewardene's cunningness. He was just a young and inexperienced man, who was at the mercy of the advisers, who were hell bent on seeing the Tamil militants subdued in Sri Lanka. Leading the advisers was J.N.Dixit, who drafted the agreement with Jayawardene. There was the Indian Intelligence , called RAW, and the the Commander in chief of the Indian Army, Sunderji, who advised Rajiv that the Indian army could wipe the LTTE out in a couple of weeks. All these people combined brought misery to the Tamils from 1987 to 2009. During this period more than 300,000 Tamils died, and India was the main cause for it.

Today India looks upon the 13th Amendment as a mantra that would solve all problems in Sri Lanka, but it had completely failed in power sharing in the Eastern Province and now the Chief Minister of NPC claims that he is totally powerless to do anything positive. India claims that the 13th Amendment plus plus will deliver power sharing in SL, but Rajapaksa has already said a couple of days ago that the 13th Amendment will not be implemented in SL.

Now that the UNHRC is only a month away, India is in a fix. Its policy had always been to see the Tamils survive in a unitary state in Sri Lanka. They are not bothered to know how they survive in such a state where they are treated like slaves. To date not one Congress minister had questioned the human rights record in SL. One of the ardent supporters of Sri Lanka, Salman Khurshid is most likely to lead the Indian delegation to the Geneva Council next month. In this link please read how he twist and turns his language. If he had his way, you can well imagine what crime he will commit against the Tamils. Please read the link from Ceylon Today
