Open, Honest, Democratic Dialog
Most Essential, Basic Tool For Effective Policy

Politically Driven GOPster/Bloody Perversions Derailing System

(SEASIDE, Ore.) - Despite their unavoidable competition brought on by their individual status economically and socially within Colonial society, our Founders worked massively to assure themselves of the essentials for any conscientious agreement on the complex issues of human relations and governing policies.

They ALL well knew the extremely high values and virtues obtainable in open discussion with honest participants willing to "tell it like it really is" and then take the full consequences, both negative and positive, for their individual views.

The still-primitive and extremely difficult and demanding essential duties of Colonial-times made that among the most massive frames for existence then, with survival all too often depending upon precisely the operation of open, honest and effective dialog and decision.

In fact, despite the historically evident --and often extremely heated-- dialog, discussion and debate massively recorded for each and every one of their working decisions, it is the strong reliance on that process and on the good faith of each participant that makes the history itself so remarkable:

It is clearly redolent with strongly expressed personal statements in the most intimate channels, yet still within the sensitive, respected and rational framework for which their mutual contributions have become justly world-famous.

For those in any doubt about this manner of massive mutual invention and development of an entirely/new concept in consensual government and the new-and old policies demanded and blended for its success, a short library-baed intervention-period is surely the best prescription: GO there...and read "with your own eyes" to satisfy your own mind of just why, when and how our Founders found for themselves the wisest --and by now well-proven-- elements for elevating the individual citizen to the most prominent and promising stature of self-rule ever yet achieved in this world. (Comprehensive book-list sidebar/listing accompanies this Op Ed.)

That is WHY the long-term/running-attack of "the ALEC process" is so strikingly and desperately dangerous and damaging to the entire working concept on which our Founders spent their most meaningful years of their lives: To create for us an exceptionally well-founded and historical-principle/tested pattern and plan for providing due and decent, honest and democratic, governing policies and procedures.

The ALEC-process substitutes one-sided, deeply partisan, corporate-paid and produced and published and lushly provided "model legislation" for what the Founders intended as a solid, sure, deeply principled "wisdom" from the "whence" of responsible and representative public discussion, debate and decision by freely elected citizens, themselves openly and actively responsible for the results under publlc stress and ongoing public test.

Today --every day !-- we see demonstrated by a raffish political Right, right where it can spit in the public eye, precisely the kind, capacity and concentrated-conflict tools for attack and even fatal damage to what the Founders forged in their famous fires of invention, creative combination and potent procedures set forth in their world-famous Constitution and Bill of Rights.

The GOPster-gang might well win sporadic applause if their self-immolating antics were presented as improperly "on stage" as the same selfish tactics are without fail, each and every day, for delicious devouring by a pandering press, itself deeply at fault and due for radically difficult come/up//ance.

There is no shame-level to their show, and no stopping its serial (NOT "side-splitting "!) very serious consequences, made to cut deeper and more painfully by the obvious contempt shown for the ordinary reader or viewer.

The combination --of politically-based pandering and improperly contemptuous press-and-media summary and acceptance-- is NOT "politics" by any present-or-past view or vow of what America has created.

It is most properly negated, denied attention, and valued for its demonstrated worth --practically speaking, near-to-nothing (!!) by most cogitative citizens -- the current contemporary model for the most meaningful kind intended from the first by our Founders.

Surely now --especially with the horrendous, spectacular, on-the-record national expose of the ALEC-process and all that is connected with-and-to it-- the time has come for this session of the Oregon Legislature to consider putting aside this blunted, broken and useless --as well as contrived, possibly illegal, and perverted -- poorly-designed process, perverted from the first step, and return to what we can proudly pronounce as the result of that famous Oregon policy: "She Flies With Her Own Wings !"

At age 94, Hank continues to define, dissect and delineate the most serious issues of our time, and then summarize some of the solutions, seen from that long-perspective and sources discovered over those decades.

At 21, Henry Clay Ruark was Aroostook Editor for the Bangor, Maine DAILY NEWS, covering the upper 1/4 of the state. In the ‘40s, he was Staff Correspondent, then New England Wires Editor at United Press-Boston; later Editor for the Burlington, Vermont 3-daily group owned by Wm. Loeb, later notorious at Manchester, New Hampshire UNION LEADER for attacks on Democratic Presidential candidates.

Hank returned to Oregon to complete M. Ed. degree at OSU, went on to Indiana University for Ed.D. (abd) and special other course-work; was selected as first Information Director for NAVA in Washington, D.C.; helped write sections of NDEA, first Act to supply math, science, foreign language consultants to state depts. of education; joined Oregon Dept. of Education, where he served as NDEA administrator/Learning Media Consultant for ten years.

He joined Dr. Amo DeBernardis at PCC, helping establish, extend programs, facilities, Oregon/national public relations; moved to Chicago as Editor/Publisher of oldest educational-AV journal, reformed as AV GUIDE Magazine; then established and operated Learning Media Associates as general communications consultant group. Due to wife’s illness, he returned to Oregon in 1981, semi-retired, and has continued writing intermittently ever since, joining S-N in 2004. His Op Eds now total over 750 written since then.

Stephen: Just so readers know what you and Ron propose, here's definition: noun an extreme laissez-faire political philosophy advocating only minimal state intervention in the lives of citizens. The adherents of libertarianism believe that private morality is not the state's affair and that therefore activities such as drug use and prostitution, which arguably harm no one but the participants, should not be illegal. Libertarianism shares elements with anarchism, although it is generally associated more with the political right (chiefly in the U.S.). Unlike traditional liberalism, however, libertarianism lacks a concern with social justice. Anyone who accepts that flies in the face of the entire development in America since the Founders invented/developed our outre' form of democracy. The tools like ready to hand if and when Americans decide they've had enough of this stuff from both parties. Honest, open democratic dialog, following this time very closely on the principles the Founders stated for us, can and will do the job. Political subterfuge to install malign and massive distortions and perversions of true democratic process --as ALEC has been exposed to be--- should be stricken from usage within every legislative body.

agree 100% about the GOP, and its even worse than you know... Altho, I hope you write about what the democrats do also, because they are just as bad, and sometimes even worse...Lets keep the big picture here. Corruption begats corruption, and DC is is swimming in it...BOTH parties. Support Ron Paul :-)
