(SALEM) - Some of the nation’s leading voices in the fight against wage theft, including authors and activists Kim Bobo and Rebecca Smith, will participate at events next week at the Oregon State Capitol intended to bring attention the extensive problem of employers stealing from workers.

The Oregon Coalition to Stop Wage Theft invites lawmakers, the public, and the media to receptions and presentations on February 19 and 20, starting at 11:30 a.m. both days.

Bobo is the executive director of Interfaith Worker Justice and author of Wage Theft in America: Why Millions of Working Americans Are Not Getting Paid – And What We Can Do About It.

Rebecca Smith from the National Employment Law Center will share her research on how wage theft is contributing to the rise in income inequality and what other states are doing to combat wage theft.

Wage theft occurs when employers pay workers less than the minimum wage, don’t pay time-and-a-half for overtime hours, cheat on the number of hours paid, steal tips, or don’t pay workers at all
