(SALEM) - A 70-year-old Salem woman was accidentally killed Sunday at the Salem/Keizer Recycling & Transfer Station after falling into the garbage pit. Salem police say Geraldine Hiebert went to the dump located at 3250 Deerpark Drive SE, around 1:30 PM, with her son, Rickey Hiebert, to drop off a load of waste. Ricky Hiebert was driving Geraldine’s truck when she apparently got out, possibly to assist him in backing up the truck. As her son was backing the truck up, Geraldine became pinned between the tailgate and the concrete barriers at the edge of the garbage pit crushing both of her legs. Mrs. When her son pulled the truck forward, Geraldine fell over the barrier onto the concrete floor of the garbage pit, police said. Mrs. Hiebert suffered severe head injuries from her fall. She was taken to Salem Hospital, where she later died from her injuries.
