(TOLEDO, Ore.) - A Lincoln City-area woman was critically injured and three others received minor injuries Tuesday morning when her vehicle collided with a commercial truck on Highway 20 near Toledo.

According to Oregon State Police (OSP) Sergeant Justin McGladrey, Tuesday at approximately 5:32 a.m. a 2005 Jeep Cherokee driven by 62-year old Michael F. Meyer of Lincoln City, was eastbound on Highway 20 near milepost 9 when it lost control on the icy highway.

The Jeep traveled into the westbound lane where it collided nearly head-on with a 2004 International truck pulling a semi-trailer loaded with grocery products.

McGladrey says after impact, the Jeep continued across the eastbound lane and collided with the guardrail before coming to a stop in the center of the highway. The commercial truck came to a stop off the highway. Meyer received minor injuries and was transported by ambulance to Samaritan Pacific Community Hospital.

His wife/passenger, 59-year old Christine Meyer, was critically injured and transported first to Samaritan Pacific Community Hospital then taken to Good Samaritan Hospital in Corvallis.

The truck's driver, 34-year old Gary G. Lamont of Tacoma, Washington, and passenger 36-year old John R. Cole of Lakewood, Washington, were both transported to Samaritan Pacific Community Hospital with minor injuries.

All persons were using safety restraints. OSP troopers from the Newport Area Command office are continuing the investigation. Members of the Lincoln County Interagency Crash Team are assisting.

Responding team members represented Newport Police Department, Lincoln City Police Department, Toledo Police Department, and Lincoln County Sheriff's Office. ODOT and Pac West Ambulance assisted at the scene.

Highway 20 was closed for about three hours with a detour established before being opened to one lane. All lanes were opened about 2:45 p.m.

John thank you so much for asking about her. She is doing amazing. She has been transfered up to Portland. She is alert and talking. She still has a long way to go before she comes home, but all in all she truly is a miracle!

Ms. Nowinski, if we may ask, how is your mother? Our thoughts are with her and we have heard no follow up...

Kim Nowinski March 5, 2009 7:54 pm (Pacific time)

Actually, YES it was a 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited. I should know, it was my mom that was in the passenger seat of the Jeep.

Preface by saying what is, to Toledo residents, the obvious: Hwy 20 is very dangerous. Continue with the observation that the article is very poorly written. 'The vehicle in which she was a passenger collided'...tractor trailer, not truck...images aren't a 2007 Jeep but a compact sedan...a real ouch, freshman journalism stuff...

EDITOR: Thanks for the clarifications, Paul. We rely on the information provided by police/emergency agencies, and their info may not be complete at time of release. We always welcome input, however, including updates and constructive criticism. Our goal is to convey correct information to the best of our abilities. I'd say that goes beyond Frosh. Thanks again.
