(SALEM) - Thursday was cold and dangerous in Oregon as snow swept through the Mid Willamette Valley, bringing residents of Oregon's capital city and surrounding areas a genuine winter wonderland.

Inches accumulated quickly and our Photojournalist, Jerry Freeman, was out and about as usual capturing the sights and sounds of the day, and what a day it was.

Drivers had a challenge trying to keep their vehicles on the road as conditions became very icy and slick.

Those who have to hit the road during times of hard weather are reminded to slow down, keep control, and be extremely mindful of other drivers who can easily lose control of their cars in icy conditions.

Drivers who do not have a lot of experience driving in inclement weather, must remember that "black ice" is a common problem in the winter, it is deceptive and deadly.

Bridges tend to freeze first, the best advice is to slow down.
