Search and Rescue Teams Rescue Fallen Injured Climber on Mt. Hood

The climber’s name is being withheld while attempts are made to contact her family.

(PORTLAND, Ore.) - Sunday at 11:33 a.m. the Clackamas County Sheriff’s Search and Rescue team responded to a fallen and injured climber above Timberline Lodge on Mt. Hood. A 35-year-old woman, climbing with a group near Crater Rock slipped and fell. She fell and slid on glacier ice approximately 300 feet. Mount Hood Ski Patrol responded first to her location. AMR Reach and Treat provided medical attention to the climber.

Members of Portland Mountain Rescue and Mountain Wave Search and Rescue, coordinated by Clackamas County SAR, transported the patient to an awaiting ambulance. The climber was safely and successfully rescued from Mount Hood and transported to Emanuel Hospital. She had sustained serious injuries to her leg and ribs.

The injured climber was alert and responsive during the entire event. The climber’s name is being withheld while attempts are made to contact her family.
