(MCMINNVILLE, Ore.) - On Super Bowl Sunday, the Yamhill County Sheriff's Office conducted focused patrols to deter and remove intoxicated drivers from the road.

One driver, involved in a motor vehicle crash on Wilsonville Road near Star Mooring Lane in rural Newberg, was arrested for driving under the influence of intoxicants prior to the beginning of the actual game.

According to Sheriff Tim Svenson, the Sheriff's Office responded to three crashes total on Super Bowl Sunday.

Two of the crashes occurred after the game had ended. One of those two crashes occurred about an hour after the game on SE Webfoot Road just south of SE Palmer Creek Road.

The driver struck a utility pole causing damage to the pole and the vehicle. That driver was not located at the scene when deputies and fire personnel arrived.

"Super Bowl traditions often involve social drinking," said Sheriff Svenson.

"I just want to encourage everyone to do drink responsibly at any gathering and remember there are many options available to you instead of driving."
