Cold Weather Update - Salem, Oregon: Includes List of Warming Locations

Most Salem area malls can be utilized as warming locations while open.

(SALEM) - UPDATED 05 Feb. 2014: Cold weather is projected to continue in the Salem area through the weekend. Residents are urged to use caution and allow extra time for traveling. Also, please check in with friends and neighbors who are elderly or may otherwise need support.

The City of Salem has announced two locations available as warming centers until 9 p.m. through Friday, February 7, 2014.

* Salem Public Library, 585 Liberty Street SE

* Center 50+, 2615 Portland Road NE

The Community Action Agency, in coordination with Emergency Management and other organizations across Salem, have taken the lead in providing a Warming Center available during the night time hours for families with children. This Center will be located at the First Congregation Church, 700 Marion Street NE. The Center will be operational from 8 p.m. to 7 a.m., on February 5, 6, and 7. This Warming Center may move to another location as the days progress beyond February 7, 2014.

Union Gospel Mission, 345 Commercial Street NE, will not turn away male persons seeking shelter.

Simonka Place, 5119 River Road N in Keizer, is at capacity but will not turn away female persons seeking shelter.

Most Salem area malls can be utilized as warming locations while open.

Other locations may be identified and that information will be posted on the City of Salem website at www.cityofsalem.net.
