Five Injured in Head-On Crash on Highway 26

Highway 26 near Elsie was the scene of another recent serious crash that critically injured a Kansas woman.

(ELSIE, Ore.) - Five people reportedly received non-life threatening injuries Sunday afternoon in a two-vehicle head-on crash on Highway 26 in Clatsop County.

Oregon State Police Lieutenant Duane Stanton says at approximately 4:49 PM, a Ford Explorer driven by 26-year old Zachary Albrecht of Cannon Beach, was eastbound on Highway 26 near milepost 25 when it crossed the centerline and crashed nearly head-on with a westbound Land Rover driven by 46-year old Jonathan Reiman of Tigard.

Stanton says all of the people injured in the crash were using safety restraints and were transported by Medix Ambulance to Legacy Emanuel Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Earlier media reports of some patients transported by LifeFlight apparently were incorrect, he added.

Albrecht was the lone occupant of the Ford Explorer.

The Land Rover contained four occupants, including two children ages 12 and 13, Stanton said.

"Conditions at the time were reported snowing and icy." The crash is the latest among many recently in Oregon caused by cold and icy roadways in the state.

Oregon State Police troopers from the Astoria Area Command office are continuing the investigation. Assistance at the scene provided by Clatsop County Sheriff's Office, Elsie Vinemaple Fire Department, Medix Ambulance and ODOT.

The highway was closed about one hour.
