(OREGON CITY, Ore.) - A family of six in Oregon City is spending the night in a warm hotel, courtesy of the American Red Cross. The family was roused from their sleep when an early morning fire woke them shortly after 1:00 AM this morning. "The two adults and four children were quickly placed in a hotel after the fire sent them hurrying into the dark, cold and wet night." Thomas Traver of the Oregon Trail Chapter, American Red Cross says the agency met the family's basic needs for the night but now they hope other Oregonians can assist. Units of the Clackamas County Fire Department responded to the residential fire in 15200 hundred of SE Holcomb in Oregon City preventing widepsread damage to the residence. Members of the American Red Cross Disaster Action Team 7 also responded Taver said, providing immediate emergency shelter. Story continues below "Additional assistance will also be provided in the coming days as the family recovers from the harrowing experience. This emergency support was made possible by Oregonians who volunteer and make charitable contributions through the Red Cross." All Red Cross disaster assistance is free, made possible by voluntary donations of time and money from Oregonians. Financial gifts help provide shelter, food, clothing, counseling and other immediate assistance to those in need. Call (503) 284-1234 or visit redcross-pdx.org.
