(SALEM, Ore.) - The National Weather Service has issued a blizzard warning for 6:00 PM this evening through 6:00 PM Friday for the Grande Ronde Valley including the cities of La Grande, Elgin and Union.

The Oregon Department of Transportation advises drivers to prepare accordingly and avoid traveling during the storm. High winds and blowing snow may cause white-out conditions.

Drivers should expect chain requirements in mountain passes.

To check chain requirements, road conditions and the latest weather reports, visit TripCheck.com or call 511 or 800-977-6368. ODOT encourages drivers to prepare their vehicles for winter driving conditions. For winter driving tips, go online to ODOT at oregon.gov/ODOT/COMM/winterdriving.shtml.
