Alzheimer's, Medical Marijuana and President Reagan

Yes, he did smoke it!

Mordechai Vanunu
"Cholo Reagan" art by Austin King, from the Feb-15-2008: Salem-News.com article, Do Republican Politicians Have a Gang-Like Mentality?

(MOLALLA, Ore.) - The Oregonian just printed a story about Alzheimer's, the difficulty of diagnoses and the standard useless, rotten, misguided treatment. It seems that physicians are very reluctant to tell a patients or family caregivers, for this disease in effect rots the brain.

I have previously written about this: Alzheimer's: Promising New Therapy in Oregon, August 16 2010, and Alzheimer: Marijuana as Effective Medicine. Oct. 25, 2010, both on Salem-News.com.

The Oregonian repeats the dismal facts upon which I wrote. If we remember Ronald Reagan had Alzheimer's while he was President. It was dismissed as, being hard or hearing.

The Scripps Research Institute reported in 2006 that THC (marijuana) inhibits the enzyme responsible for the aggregation of amyloid plaques in the brain, a marker, responsible for Alzheimer's, and stated THC was superior to Donepesil and Tacrine, two highly TV advertised anti-Alzheimer's medications.

These revelations certainly must shock many people; patients and their families, that Reefer Madness drugs would really help Alzheimer's.

If physicians and patients may be shocked about the above, they shoudn't be, marijuana is very safe and highly effective for a whole bunch of brain diseases. I will just mention a few: for psychoses; better than Haldol, Lithium, and Neurontin. For Autism, ADD and ADHD, it is better than Ritalin or Adderal; for depression, better than Prozac, Paxil, Zoloft or Effexor.

Marijuana is also better for multiple sclerosis, epilepsy, A-L-S- (Lou Gherig's Disease), Parkinsonism, Tourettes, Anoxeria, Cachexia, Schizophrenia and PTSD with few exceptions overall.

When we consider that standard prescriptions such as antiemetics, anti-spasmodics, anti-psychotics and anti-depressants account for between 1.5 million and 2.2 million serious adverse effects causing hospitalization and even unnecessary deaths. Marijuana causes only slight adverse effects and never a death.

Getting to Pres. Reagan

He once said, "I have absolute proof that smoking even one marijuana cigarette is equal in brain damage to being on Bikini Island during an 'H' bomb blast."

However, in one posting on Pres. Ronald Reagan and marijuana was a question and answer:

Question: Did Ronald Reagan smoke marijuana?

Answer: Yes, it is a known fact that during his Presidential Administration Ronald Reagan did smoke marijuana to slow the decline of his Alzheimer's disease. (Answer according to Wiki Answers

IF IT WAS GOOD ENOUGH FOR PRESIDENT REAGAN, IT SHOULD BE GOOD ENOUGH FOR THE REST OF US!

Excellent comment and point made below by the Editor.

I'm sorry, but the source he references from "Wiki Answers" could just as well have been my 8 year old nephew. The question might as well have been "did Reagan have a sex change" and then the person who responded to the question could have replied that "Yes, it is a known fact that during his Presidential Administration Ronald Reagan did have a sex change". Wiki Answer's is like quoting the comment section of this website as fact. I'm not saying he might have used marijuana (which would have been very shocking due to his just say no campaign) but we need facts my good doctor!

Editor: Wiki Answers is one source and certainly not the only source for this information.  You think the Reagan estate would leave that unaddressed if it wasn't accurate?  Do you follow me?  Too bad you have to lower your point into the dirt.  I think the sex change analogy is totally off track, and I'm taking a deep breath over your 8-year old nephew reference.  Do you have any idea who Dr. Leveque is?  Show respect if you want your comment to show up, I don't approve them all, thanks..
