(PORTLAND, OR) - First of all, marijuana is medicine and has been used since medicine at least since Biblical times. Further, despite bleeting by anti-marijuana government employees, it has never harmed anybody. Fallacious comments to the contrary. It never killed anybody either, which can not be said for almost all medicines in use. I concentrate and advocate for marijuana because as a physician/pharmacologist, I know that it works very well for PTSD (Post Traumatic Stress Disorder) but for the terror of combat which is the predecessor for PTSD. Non-combat persons will get PTSD also but combat in battle is the most common cause. Charlie Rose had a special program about PTSD Dec. 17 2012, at which time he had a psychiatrist, a Dr. Kandell, who really did have a concept of the brain and soul destruction caused by combat PTSD, he also had an retired Lt. Col. of Infantry, John Brown (I think) who ended up with PTSD. It didn't happen when he was a lite colonel, he was obviously at the front lines someplace. There were about four academic researchers working on PTSD in rats (They get it also) by torturing them with electric shocks much like Pavlov's dogs. The academics were discussing the end of endocrine and metabolic changes in the rats but also threw into the discussion, behavioral modification therapy, virtual reality therapy, anti-depressant drug therapy and adrenaline-blocking therapy for PTSD, none of which work for the moderate to severe battle-caused PTSD. For the psychological one-on-one therapy asking the Veteran, "What was your worst experience" was most likely to bring about an immediate total psychologic breakdown and the end of that kind of therapy. The use of anti-depressant drugs has mostly been a failure with the drug companies charged with medical fraud. The use of the anti-adrenaline drug Propanalol has also been a failure. It has been used to treat "stage fright" for singers and actors but stage fright has nothing to do with the terror of a mortar barrage, artillery barrages, mine fields and rifle fire. Adrenaline is secreted by the body for the "fight or flight" response to battle terror. Without that we infantrymen would not survive. I was astonished about the colonel's therapy. It was with psychologists that cost he said, $100,000. An added note to this: I had about 1000 PTSD/Combat Veterans successfully treated with marijuana at maybe $10 per day and in New Mexico, 50% of their marijuana patients are being treated successfully for PTSD. 20 MILLION PATIENTS USE MARIJUANA. |

There is another problem regarding "Latent PTSD" in Police work. This has been well documented in many Psych papers. I myself have been Dx by a police medical officer during (MD) after a debriefing from a shooting. After almost 30 years of Law Enforcement, it has taken it's toll. I now find myself between a rock and a hard place, in the area of Cannabis use. Trust me it works. I refer you to the work done by Dr. Fink out of Temple and his papers after 911 in this area of Latent PTSD. I have to break the law in Fl. Just so I don't have to use SandNRI's and Benzo's. I finally sleep at night without horrific dreams and no cold sweats. I now re-engage in social activities I was avoiding. I take approx. 2 drags TID and maybe one before bed. It work’s,,, PS I am now 62 yoa
