Leon Panetta v. Crimes Of The Highest Nature

Attention on military sexual assault is being driven by the new film: The Invisible War.

Leon Panetta and the grave of Lavena Johnson

(CLEVELAND) - Salem-News.com has carried many articles and creative writings about a young woman named Lavena Johnson, who was raped and murdered while serving her country in Iraq. Investigators labeled her heinous death in the US Army as a 'suicide'.

Attention on sexual assault in the military is being driven by a brand new film titled: The Invisible War.

"The Invisible War is a 2012 documentary film written and directed by Kirby Dick about sexual assault in the United States military. It premiered at the 2012 Sundance Film Festival, where it received the U.S. Documentary Audience Award"
- Wikipedia

The ambitious project designed to open the eyes of Americans to this huge problem that affects men and women throughout the entire military community.

Now the heat is on, and Leon Panetta states that there is "zero tolerance" for this most unaddressed problem?

How convenient for him to say the right thing at the right time.

Too bad he wasn't there to help bring truth to the tragic story of young Army PFC Johnson, too bad he wasn't there when other young women have come forward with allegations of sex abuse, only to be shot down and defeated by the very government that placed them in harm's way in the first place.

Leon Panetta v. Crimes Of The Highest Nature

Many years since the death of Army PFC Johnson, LeVena Lynn,
Whereas, the curtailing of those who attacked her has yet to begin,
Thursday, December 20th 2012, an in depth news report by CNN,
Defense Secretary Leon Panetta claims “Zero Tolerance” but when?

On Friday 12/21/12 a screening in 5 cities of, “The Invisible War,”
Documentary on this crime wave and why there’s not less but more,
So while all one has to do is look at the single digit conviction rate,
Such a very low number why does it seem like it’s already too late?

Service members brave enough report to their superiors this crime,
Subject to face ridicule, demotion… as their attackers serve no time,
An investigation into their background even an involuntary discharge,
While the guilty party preys on another victim, free and living large.

The case of Marine Lt. Elle Helmer, what happened the night before?
Reporting the incident to her Colonel he rudely showed her the door,
“You’re from Colorado… you’re tough, pick yourself up, dust it off,
I can’t baby sit you all the time” & this guy is a U.S. Military boss?

Refusing to press charges or significantly punish her assailant at all,
Over 19,000 incidents the year 2010 alone, who will heed their call?
20 kids, 6 adults, massacre, another push for gun control, that’s fine,
If military victims were shot ah LeVena was, DOJ suicide, no crime.

Karley Marquet and Annie Kendzior enrolled at prestigious academies,
Only to have military personnel freely violate privates of their anatomy,
Wow! To become military officers adorning the uniform ever so proudly,
Future military careers now shrouded in shame skies now dark & cloudy.

Mr. President, Mr. President, how dare you propose to protect the kids,
Dedicated soldiers point to their attackers saying this is what they did,
To become innocent victims a second time when your regime looks away,
“Business As Usual” once again the new orders for this and every day.

We live in a world of social & economic injustice. The main reason for founding America in the first place was to relieve the oppression of the King of England. Patrick Henry said it best, “give me liberty or give me death.” And yet, all too often death seems to be the only way out. Why is there such a high suicide rate especially among teens, in the land of the free & the home of the brave? What makes headlines? Good news? Ha! More depressing stories than anything else. I feel poetry takes an edge off the hurt of bad news while still delivering it but in a, “glitzy” sort of way. Giving a different perspective. Kind of like slap in the face as opposed to a knife in the back. At least with the slap you’ll live to see another day and you will know whom it’s from. I wasn’t here for the beginning of the world but at 59, I just might be here for the end.

Even though it’s still a knife, rhyme poetry helps to dull the blade. And that’s my job. You can write to Luke Easter at: lyricsfromlucas@aol.com

If we are going to have Dr. Gupta as our Surgeon General let's just extend it to the rest of the can't get engouh attention in my real field, so I'll have my own TV show group. Why stop with Anderson Cooper as press secretary. Let's make Nancy Grace the Attorney General and Jerry Springer the Ambassador to France. However the biggest problem I have with Dr. CNN are his ties to the drug companies. As an advocate for Merck's cervical cancer vaccine Gardasil he failed to disclose the financial arrangements between CNN and Merck the company that makes it. And as a advocate of this drug he apparently approves of the needless vaccinating of thousands of young women so that IF they decide to be sexually promiscuos and IF they contract the specific STD that Gardasil protects against then they will probably be protected from the specific cervical cancer caused by this STD. That's a lot of IF's. How about if he concurrently advocates for safe sex practices or even abstenence. Let's vaccinate pseudo-TV personalities against big-head syndrome.
