Tornado Rips Through Rural Oregon Community

(AUMSVILLE, Ore.) - A Tornado touched down at the southern end of Aumsville, Oregon last Tuesday at approximately 11:40 a.m. cutting a swath of destruction but fortunately sparing the people of this rural Oregon town from serious injury.
Unusual in the Northwest, the Tornado had a Fujita Scale rating of EF2 with estimated wind speeds between 110 and 120 MPH.
Salem-News.com video photographer Jerry Freeman went to the scene twice Tuesday, accompanied the second time by our still photographer Dexter Phoenix.
The scenes they recorded are something Oregon residents are absolutely not accustomed to seeing.
Maurita Nichol, whose husband owns and operates the long-established Nichol's Plumbing, told Salem-News it was extremely fortunate that nobody was in their business when the building practically disintegrated.
The barber shop adjacent to the plumbing company was damaged and the barber was shaken, but unhurt.
There is one amazing story after another emerging from what was for many, a catastrophic event.
In the Tornado that struck Aumsville, 50 structures were damaged, and thirty or more large trees were blown down or snapped off.
The event damaged 5 sheds and tipped two semi truck trailers over.
The estimated length of the touchdown is 5 miles, and it was approximately 150 yards wide.
