(PENDLETON, Ore.) - An unoccupied Oregon State Police patrol vehicle was struck at the scene of a jack-knifed commercial truck Wednesday evening on Interstate 84 east of Pendleton. The freeway was closed for approximately two hours after this incident for removal of multiple vehicles in the area. Oregon State Police Lieutenant Greg Sherman says that at approximately 7:00 PM, OSP Trooper Trampas McCrae was at the scene of a jack-knifed commercial truck westbound on Interstate 84 near milepost 219 near the bottom of Cabbage Hill. "The commercial truck was jack-knifed on the right shoulder and the OSP vehicle was behind the truck with its emergency lights activated," Sherman said. As Trooper McCrae was standing on the hillside with the truck's driver a 2008 Peterbuilt conventional truck pulling a semi-trailer rounded a corner and lost control. The Peterbuilt crashed into the guardrail on the left shoulder causing it to jack-knife. The Peterbuilt slid across both lanes of travel and crashed into the parked OSP Ford Expedition. No one was injured. The driver of the Peterbuilt truck, 44-year old Sabino Luna of West Valley, Utah, was driving for May Trucking. No citations were issued. The roadway was extremely icy and high winds caused blowing snow conditions. Roadway was closed for approximately 2 hours to remove the trucks with ODOT's assistance.
