(AMITY, Ore.) - Kenneth John Meyer was sledding with his wife and son outside of McMinnville when, at 11:48 AM, his sled left the driveway and slid into the path of a northbound 2004 Mazda pickup, according to police. He was killed by the impact.

Yamhill County Sheriff Jack Crabtree said that the driver of the vehicle, 57-year old Mikel Steven Rogers of McMinnville, was traveling in heavy snow and had no time to react before striking Meyer.

"An off-duty McMinnville paramedic and one of my Deputies were the first ones to arrive on the scene. Unfortunately we were not able to resuscitate Mr. Meyer. Our hearts go out to the family in this time of great loss," Crabtree said.

SW Walnut Hill Road is approximately 6 miles southeast of the city of McMinnville.
