(SALEM) - Complaints cited by our Human Rights Ambassador William Nicholas Gomes, over water levels being raised to the point that they literally drowned a local community, have been recognized by the National Human Rights Commission in India. It is another wonderful accomplishment for this our working journalist and human rights activist originally from Bangladesh, and another big step forward in the relationship between media and the needs of human beings. In fact it is one of several noted accomplishments. William Gomes is a relentless activist who is a magnet for complaints from people all over the world who are suffering. His past achievements include having a Pakistani land activist freed from the hands of ISI where he had been tortured for weeks, and also for clarifying the alleged affair of a Bangladesh politician who was the victim of an unscrupulous 'journo' who makes a living from lies. The article that reached Indian officials, India: Immediately order Reduction of Water Level in Omkareshwar and Indira Sagar Dams, details problems faced by residents of in India's Narmada Valley. As Mr. Gomes reported in September, water levels at the Omkareshwar and Indira Sagar dams in Narmada Valley were, according to witnesses, illegally raised. This flooded the homes of local families and also valuable agricultural land that people rely on to make a living and generate valuable food products. Locals became refugees within their own country. The stricken populace has not been resettled or relocated. This is particularly disturbing as the Supreme Court issued an order that these 'oustees' be rehabilitated 6 months before submergence. At of the September writing, thousands of families were being submerged in complete violation of both Supreme Court and High Court orders. In his letter to officials, Gomes, asked Shri Shivraj Singh Chouhan; Chief Minister for the Government of Madhya Pradesh, to work with the oustees of the Omkareshwar and Indira Sagar dam in the Narmada valley in Madhya Pradesh. They are fighting for their rights and their lives are in the need of the government's intervention and support. This is the letter from the India National Human Rights Commission citing Gomes' outreach: The world is fortunate to have William Nicholas Gomes, one of the few working journalists who dedicates his life toward helping people in dire and sometimes terrible conditions. _________________________________________
