(GASTON, Ore.) - Police report that a Gaston-area man died Monday night in a single vehicle traffic crash on Highway 47 about 1.5 miles south of Gaston. Oregon State Police troopers say they are continuing the investigation.

They say December 14th at approximately 11:00 p.m., a 2003 Ford F-150 pickup driven by 62-year old Alfred L. Spry of Gaston, was southbound on Highway 47 near milepost 27 when, for an unknown reason, it traveled off the highway and down the roadside ditch for about 250 feet. The pickup rolled onto its driver side and came to a stop.

Mr. Spry was extricated by Gaston Fire Department personnel and pronounced deceased at the scene. He was not using safety restraints.

Neither speed nor alcohol appear to be factors. The roadway was wet and it was raining.

OSP troopers from the McMinnville Area Command office are continuing the investigation.

The Yamhill County Sheriff's Office, Gaston Fire Department, Gaston Fire Department's chaplain and ODOT assisted.
