(SALEM, Ore.) - A number of road and highway projects are ongoing in the local area and drivers need to be especially mindful as winter temperatures increase dangers for roadside workers.

In some road construction areas no traffic impacts are expected until spring 2008 when weather will allow additional work.

One project underway on I-5 at the Wilsonville to Hayesville Interchange, replaces two I-5 bridges over Oregon 551, the Wilsonville-Hubbard Highway, south of Charbonneau District exit 282 near Wilsonville. On I-5, this takes place between mile posts 282.25 and 282.40.

The project also includes paving, guardrail repair and median cable guardrail re-tensioning on a 22-mile section of I-5 from the north Salem city limits to the Baldock Safety Rest Area south of Wilsonville on I-5 between mile posts 259.10 to 281.33.

Another project on I-5 in Salem includes replacement of seven I-5 bridges between mile posts 251 and 253, as well as the repair of a bridge at exit 249. It also includes widening of I-5 from four to six lanes.

During this I-5 project in south Salem: Watch for roadside construction work on I-5 around the clock with nighttime single-lane closures. Watch for closed lanes and detours on local streets and roads. The speed limit is 50 mph between I-5 mile posts 251 and 255.
