(GERVAIS, Ore.) - Marion County Sheriff's deputies responded to a report of a pedestrian hit by an Amtrak train Thursday at 3:30 p.m. about 1/2 mile north of Gervais. Lt. Sheila Lorance with the Marion County Sheriff's Office, says deputies arriving on the scene found a 33-year old Hispanic male who was deceased and identified as Antonio Montelongo, believed to be from the Gervais area. "The train operator indicated he observed Montelongo on or near the tracks and sounded the horn several times. He attempted to stop the train but was unable to do so and Montelongo was struck and killed." Deputy Dave Wagner and Chaplain Todd Pynch of Crisis Chaplaincy attempted to locate next of kin for Montelongo but have not been able to do so. If anyone has information regarding Mr. Montelongo or family members, please contact the Marion County Sheriff's Office at 503 588-5032.
