(SALEM) - UPDATES from the Marion County Sheriff's Office:

To meet everyone's needs we will be moving our conference to 11:30. So to reiterate a prepared statement and question period will be made available on scene at 11:30 a.m.

The final information being released this evening is that both the suspect and the Deputy are recovering in the hospital from non-life threatening injuries. Investigators will return to the scene tomorrow to begin processing evidence. The Sheriff's Office will also return to the scene at 10:30 am with a prepared statement. It will be at this time that we will be available for any interviews, comments or questions.

Based on the inclement weather and extreme darkness the scene will be closed until morning. No further information will be released until the scene is reopened in the a.m. I will update this release with the time the scene and investigators will return shortly.

The Marion County Sheriff's Office is currently on scene and engaged in a very high risk tactical operation in the area of 117th and Sunnyview Road NE. The Sheriff's Office is being assisted by numerous agencies from inside of Marion County. We can confirm that multiple shots have been fired and one deputy has been injured. Although there is no immediate threat to the public we are encouraging neighbors in the area to remain indoors. We are not prepared to comment any further and the PIO is not available at this time for comment.

The Marion County deputy was shot on the grounds of a Christmas tree farm.

One suspect was reportedly down, though that information is preliminary. A Lifeflight helicopter has arrived on the scene along with an armored Salem Police unit.

The deputy has reportedly been shot in the leg and has lost a lot of blood; the law enforcement officers are having a difficult time locating the additional suspect, according to an unconfirmed report. Multiple agencies have responded to the call.

Our photojournalist/reporter Jerry Freeman is on the scene of the reported police shooting. He described the area as, "A wide open field, off to the Southeast are some tall evergreen trees planted in rows, 15 to 25 feet tall, about the height of a two-story house and a red barn which is apparently relevant to the location of the suspect."

It apparently began earlier today when Silverton Police were following an occupied stolen vehicle. According to unconfirmed reports, the vehicle eluded Silverton officers in adverse weather.

Here is an initial look at the scene from Jerry Freeman...

Marion County deputies were in the area trying to locate the suspects in the Silverton case when the shooting took place.

The call of the deputy being shot came in just before 4:00 p.m.

This is taking place in a vast rural area, according to Jerry Freeman who is responding to the area, which is covered by a sheet of ice.

The Marion County Sheriff's Office stated in a press release earlier today, "... the Marion County Sheriff's Office, surrounding agencies and their perspective public works departments are experiencing a higher than average volume of calls for service."

It sounds like this incident could not have happened on a worse day.

We will bring more information as it becomes available.
