Democrats Make Sure Gitmo Stays Open

Oregon's Ron Wyden did not vote in favor of keeping 'Gitmo' open.

Gitmo in Cuba
tominpaine.blogspot.com

(PORTLAND, OR) - As Wikipedia states, the Guantánamo Bay detention camp is a controversial detainment and interrogation facility of the United States military located within Guantánamo Bay Naval Base, Cuba.

It was established in 2002 by the Bush Administration to hold detainees believed to be connected with the war in Afghanistan and later Iraq.

On January 22, 2009, President Barack Obama signed an order to suspend the proceedings of the Guantanamo military commission for 120 days and that the detention facility would be shut down within the year.

The facility is operated by the Joint Task Force Guantánamo (JTF-GTMO) of the United States government in Guantánamo Bay Naval Base, which is on the shore of Guantánamo Bay. The detainment areas consist of three camps: Camp Delta (which includes Camp Echo), Camp Iguana, and Camp X-Ray, but Camp X-Ray has been closed.

The facility is often referred to as Guantánamo, G-Bay or Gitmo, after GTMO, the military abbreviation for the Guantánamo Bay Naval Base.

The nominally Democratic (but far right in fact) Senate voted 51-45-5 to prevent closing of the illegal Guantánamo prison in Cuba.

That majority the following 10 Dems (+ 2 no voters):

Baucus (D-MT)
Hagan (D-NC)
Inouye (D-HI)
Landrieu (D-LA)
Lieberman (ID-CT)
Manchin (D-WV)
Nelson (D-NE)
Pryor (D-AR)
Stabenow (D-MI)
Webb (D-VA)
Rockefeller (W. VA) and Wyden (OR) did not vote

Michael Munk tries to glean important but overlooked items from the world media on the issues of the day and posts them on an irregular schedule. Although items can overlap, he also maintains separate lists for activists in Portland, Oregon and the Northwest, and special lists for: Labor, Latin America, Israel, Torture Taxis, Korea, and the Czech Republic.

Michael is a highly praised writer from an important generation whose book, the Portland Red Guide, has received high praise.

"City Commissioner Nick Fish gave me a copy. Sat down on my sofa and couldn't put it down until I finished. Fascinating!"
-- Tom Potter, Mayor of Portland 2005-2009

"Whoop! Whoop! I'm impressed by how many names from Portland's past have not made it into our official histories and public memorials. Some were good friends of mine. Local history is too often overlooked. Good work, Mike."
-- Bud Clark, Saloon keeper, Goose Hollow Inn, and Mayor of Portland, 1985–1992

"YOU CANNOT FIX STUPID" Attention Anonymous, the lazy natives have always harbored an animosity towards the smarter, achievement oriented people. While we drive away in our luxury vehicles to our luxury gated communities they are at places like Carl Jr.'s getting their artery-clogging food, complaining about people who became successful, something that will always elude them, mainly because they expect the government to support them via our over taxed incomes. Soon with Obamacare in place, they will wait for healthcare, dieing long before they get any medical treatments. Good riddance, for only the strong deserve to survive, as put forth by even a misfit like Darwin. He understood the genetics v.s environment reality. Culling the herd is the only positive act that progressives have done, and it is their own undoing. Ironic. I love it.

Amandablack so what in the hell do you know about anything regarding this matter?

Editor: Amanda Black was in the military during WWII - back when you were a little craphead playing in your poop mister, not that you probably ever stopped!  Others reading this, this comment is from a paid right wing shill who spends his entire pathetic life trolling Salem-News and similar sites to attack everything we say or write.  So there is no need for fairness when it comes to this clown, and I deleted the really insulting callous aspect of the remark! LOL Amanda Black is like family to Salem-News.com.

It certainly would save big money to close the facitlity. Besides, why are these few people detained without a "charge" and a trial? I hate it, when we point fingers at others, and do no better in the treatment of prisoners. Disgusting Hypocrisy.

It would be great to send Brad Manning down there to do the official inspection and write the legal charges against Obama. As for Bush, have his head piked on some left-over pork ribs and let him be remembered with the other right wing Christian wannabees for water-boarding, just imagine how differently they would feel about it if they were strapped into place, one table for George, one for Barbara, and one for the little devil spawn 'W'.  None deserve to be alive, Bye bye Bush, you treasonous POS.

No Wonder the above commenter signed his name anonymous. It's hard to believe that these U.S. Citizens are so uninformed as to the actual tactics of the members of the staff of GTMO.

Senator Dianne Feinstein commissioned a GAO report on the closing of Guantanamo. This report demonstrates that if the political will exists, we could finally close Guantanamo without imperiling our national security,” This GAO report seems to indicate that the Obama administration plans to transfer Guantanamo detainees to U.S. prisons. As the article notes, in response, on Nov. 29, 2012, the U.S. Senate voted against the transfer of Guantanamo Bay detainees, despite veto threats from the White House. Will Obama veto, will the Senate override, and if it can't override, will Obama transfer the prisoners?

The drama continues. Read my article,  ("Obama's Broken Promise on Gitmo's Tenth Anniversary")

You damn right it stays open. These murderers have no business in our Country. And for all you terrorist loving idiots why don't you adopt one of this trash and have him living with you. Then he can rape your wife and daughters and put a trash bag over their head.

Editor: Isn't it funny that you describe the very act committed against the mostly innocent victims of Gitmo?
