(HILLSBORO, Ore.) - This morning at 4:20 am, members of the Hillsboro Police Department, Washington County Sheriff's Office, Beaverton Police, and FBI successfully took a distraught Hillsboro man into custody after five hour negotiations. Officers received a welfare check call regarding Gary Eugene Overby, age 40, 2300 block of NW 188th Ave in Hillsboro on last night at 1130 pm. This call was due to concern over his mental state and in response to messages he had sent his ex-wife earlier in the day stating that he was suicidal. Based on his state of mind, and the possibility that he may have had weapons, officers activated WCSO Tactical Negotiations Team before entering his apartment. The negotiators talked with him for five hours and Overby gave himself up without incident. Officers evacuated nearby apartments as a precaution. No persons were injured during this incident. Overby was arrested for violation of restraining order and is lodged in the Washington County Jail. News Release from: Hillsboro Police Dept.
