(CHENNAI, India LankaSriNews) - Government officials in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu, have been ordered to release seven Sri Lankan Tamil refugees who are detained at the Chenkalpattu special detention center. Family members of the refugees, along with political parties and supporters, expressed happiness and relief. The seven Lankan Tamil refugees: Parabaran, T.Satheesh, V. Satheesh, Shanmuganathan, Sekaran, Vickneswaran and Disky Mohammad were detained at the Chenkalpattu special detention center. As refugees, the seven continuously engaged in hunger strikes; demanding their release from officials. A refugee named Senthuran faced critical health problems and was rushed to the hospital after being released. General Secretary of the MDMK (Marumalarchi Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam) Vai Gopalsamy, popularly known as 'Vaiko', is the leader of the Naam Tamilar party. Along with the leader of the Viduthalai Siruthaikal party, Thol. Thirumawalawan, Vaiko continuously made requests to release the refugees during their controversial incarceration. They also staged various protests in the state. Vaiko visited Senthuran and also commenced a hunger strike protest at the MDMK headquarters, demanding the government to release these refugees. There are many Sri Lankan refugees who have been treated as criminals by their Tamil brothers in India. Many people are moved to see the saga of these seven refugees resolved by the Tami Nadu state government. According to reports, Parabaran, T. Satheesh, V. Satheesh, Shanmuganathan, Vickneswarn and Disky Mohammad were handed over to their relatives. All these refugees were released according to the recommendation made by the Q-division police.
