(CLEVELAND) - Neither women or children are not placed on the earth to be abused, and it is sad that this has to a subject in our modern society. Sadly, family abuse is a widespread problem in America and the examples constantly cited by news anchors assail us, and should be a wake up call for everyone that it is time to put our foot down and demand an end. Of course jails and prisons are full of non violent drug offenders; they often received harsher and longer, 'mandatory minimum' sentences than their violent and dangerous prisoner counterparts. Most men who beat and abuse women and children never get caught anyway, those who do are handled all to gently by the legal system, very differently than the the way they treat their victims. Sometimes it seems like they aren't men at all. But then when you examine the history of these brutal thugs you find the hearts of little boys who were savagely beaten and damaged by the people who were charged with their care. Despite what some experts say, patterns of abuse from parent to child do repeat themselves. Perhaps the nation will someday invest in the treatment and care of people who have survived, and the education of the offenders, otherwise it just goes on and on. Women and children are not to blame when they are threatened and abused. People need to be turned in, and it doesn't matter who they are. There are no excuses for abuse and hands are not meant to hurt people. Violence Against Females (15-year-old Josie Lou Ratley) Women were not created for swollen lips & black eyes, Fathers or “lovers” are not supposed to slap or punch mother in the face, Our God never intended for wives to live in fear inside their own home, Domestic Violence is a sickening crime now cresting a high tide, A man can severely beat his spouse, be arrested, make bail, Even in the military where females should be more than safe, In a court of law a man punched his girlfriend, held her neck, Many look like they have been in a championship fight, Then there are those guys, who severely beat on the kids, It’s not even about money since both the rich and the poor, Battered Woman’s Syndrome deals with repeated violence it is not a guess, Here is an incident that happened & it’s just the worst disgrace, Yet less than a week later would you believe this woman went back to him too? Ok, exactly where are all of these tough guys who should be sent to Iraq? A Seattle Metro Bus Driver early in the morning did not open the back door, Food for thought; movies, television and music in my mind are the main three, 03/11/2010 A woman in a bar/night club was asked to dance & she declined, Well, New York City is an extremely big place, tell me where did this happen? And I only say might because it has happened so many, many times in the past, Imagine that he punch her so hard, so viciously on his hand he had a bruise, What are the odds that you don’t have to know your assailant or be at home? 03/17/10, a boy 15 beats girl 15, smashing her face to the ground, The second most alarming thing is there had to be other students around, Josie Lou Ratley was viciously attacked by Wayne Treacy is fact Although that incident involved not a female but a 15 year-old boy, I’ve been told by many that poems like this one are way too cynical, I’m not talking about soldiers fighting a war in a life & death battle, Hey! Speaking of theaters where of course movies are being shown, by Luke Easter Luke Easter is a poet who writes about things that are very close to the heart of Salem-News.com. Another former U.S. Marine, Luke heals the world with an approach that reaches people on a different level, one known for centuries, yet too often forgotten in the one we live in. We live in a world of social & economic injustice. The main reason for founding America in the first place was to relieve the oppression of the King of England. Patrick Henry said it best, “give me liberty or give me death.” And yet, all too often death seems to be the only way out. Why is there such a high suicide rate especially among teens, in the land of the free & the home of the brave? What makes headlines? Good news? Ha! More depressing stories than anything else. I feel poetry takes an edge off the hurt of bad news while still delivering it but in a, “glitzy” sort of way. Giving a different perspective. Kind of like slap in the face as opposed to a knife in the back. At least with the slap you’ll live to see another day and you will know whom it’s from. I wasn’t here for the beginning of the world but at 59, I just might be here for the end. Even though it’s still a knife, rhyme poetry helps to dull the blade. And that’s my job.
