Lincoln City Blood Drive

You Can Save Three People with your Blood Donation

Red Cross Give Blood Badge

(LINCOLN CITY, Ore.) - In order to help maintain an adequate blood supply for our nation, the Lincoln City Chamber of Commerce is sponsoring a Red Cross Blood Drive, Friday, September 2, 2011. The Bloodmobile will be parked in the Chamber lot at 4039 NW Logan Road from 11am – 4pm. Donations are taken by appointment only, with registration online at www.redcrossblood.org, using sponsor code ‘LCCOC’ or by calling the Chamber of Commerce at 541 994 3070.

All types of blood are needed, but of special interest is Type O Negative. Type O Negative is a universal blood type and can be used by anyone, regardless of their own blood type. Type O negative is used in emergency situations, when cross-matching is not feasible and is, therefore, in great demand.

Because the Red Cross breaks down blood donations into three components (platlets, plasma, and blood cells) each donor can potentially affect a positive outcome for at least three people in need of blood products. The Red Cross indicates that every two seconds, someone in the country needs blood and with that continuing need, only 5% of eligible donors actually donate blood. Transfusions are life-saving necessities for accident victims, premature babies, as well as cancer and surgery patients. In the Northwest, the Red Cross supplies over 80 hospitals in Oregon, Washington and Alaska, with a weekly goal of 5,000 pints collected each week.

In the past three months, the Red Cross has responded to more than 40 major disasters in over 30 states. During May and June, blood donations were six percent lower than typical for this time period, so the need is greater than usual. So go to www.redcrossblood.org, and using the sponsor code ‘LCCOC,’ sign up to donate the gift of life.

For more information, contact the Red Cross at 800-RED-CROSS or 503 585 5416. “The need is constant. The gratification is instant. Give blood.”
