The Albany Community Pool will open registration for summer evening youth swim lessons for ages 3 and older at 5:30 p.m. Thursday.

(ALBANY, Ore. ) - Blue Oyster Cult and Bachman & Turner will perform Saturday at 8:00 p.m. on the Main Stage at the Oregon Amphitheater as the headline act for the 2014 ATI Northwest Art & Air Festival in Albany, Oregon.

Amphitheater gates open at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, and wristbands will be placed on all persons entering the venue, and will be required to enter or exit the Amphitheater.

For over four decades, Blue Öyster Cult has been thrilling fans of intelligent hard rock worldwide with powerful albums loaded with classic songs.

The Long Island-based band is revered within the hard rock and heavy metal scene for its pioneering work. Blue Öyster Cult occupies a unique place in rock history because it’s one of very few hard rock/heavy metal bands to earn both genuine mainstream critical acclaim as well as commercial success.

After many years of fan demand, Randy Bachman and Fred Turner, two giants of rock n’ roll, are reunited for the first time in more than 20 years.

The musicians at the heart of legendary band Bachman-Turner Overdrive are touring as Bachman & Turner. The duo and their top-notch band released their first two singles in two decades, “Rollin’ Along,” and “Slave to the Rhythm.”

The 15th annual ATI Northwest Art & Air Festival runs August 22-24, at Timber-Linn Memorial Park, and at the Albany Municipal Airport.

The weekend includes hot-air balloon launches at dawn every day; a balloon “night glow” on Friday; more than 70 Northwest artists with their crafts for show and sale; food; a wine and microbrew garden; live music; Family Zone; classic car show; free Young Eagles flights for kids; and aircraft displays and other activities at the airport.

More than 60,000 attended the 2013 Festival.

The event is presented by Albany Parks & Recreation. ATI is the title sponsor for the 15th year.

Fall Evening Youth Swim Lesson Registration The Albany Community Pool will open registration for summer evening youth swim lessons for ages 3 and older at 5:30 p.m. Thursday.

Registration is at the pool, 2150 36th Avenue SE. Cost is $36 for eight classes.

All classes are taught by certified Red Cross Water Safety instructors.

The 30 minute lessons are 6:00 p.m. to 8:05 p.m., Tuesdays and Thursdays. Sessions will be held September 9 to October 2, and October 7 to 30.

Reptile Zoo Coming to Albany Library

Students going into kindergarten or school grades are invited to Mr. Lizard’s Reptile Zoo at 2:30 p.m. on Thursday at the Albany Main Library, 2450 14th Avenue SE.

Brett Wilson will bring live reptiles into the library’s meeting room for students to see and touch during this one-hour educational presentation.

The library will provide a display of books available for checkout on related subjects for further learning at home.

This program is part of the library’s summer reading program events scheduled from mid-June through August.

They are free of charge, and no registration is required.

Marionette Show at Albany Carnegie Library The public is invited to “Step In Time,” performed by local teens using stringed puppets at the Carnegie Library, 302 Ferry Street SW, at 10:30 a.m. and at 2:30 p.m. on Tuesday.

This time traveling musical show features rhymes and songs suitable for all ages as the marionettes dance their way through stories old and new.
