Aug-15-2012 02:00TweetFollow @OregonNews Ethiopia: Stop Crack Down on PressLetter by William Gomes Salem-News.comEthiopia, which according to the African Report Card is in 'ICU', uses a western tactic to silence his critics.
(SALEM) - Ethiopia is using the excuse of fighting 'terrorism' to silence its political media opposition. What would hardline governments in the world do today if the U.S. hadn't started a global war on terrorism, opening the gates to murder anyone as long as the 't' word is in the headline? Since the United States and its allies decided to deem governments that stand for oppressed people in military occupation zones 'terrorists', the term has been used to conduct everything from daily harassment of Muslims, to full-scale Genocide of Hindus and Christians which happened in Sri Lanka, as the government wiped out people claiming they were killing the Tamil Tiger 'terrorist' group. It was used as a license by that government to kill and we constantly hear of more countries using the same tactic to silence journalists and human rights activists. At the time of this writing, an Oregon resident who is from Sudan, Rudwan Dawod, is being held in Sudan where he was arrested on 'terrorism' charges because he and other Muslim activists were going to rebuild a Catholic Cathedral destroyed by Sudanese Muslim forces. As William Nicholas Gomes explains in the letter below to Ethiopia's Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ato Hailemariam Desalegn Boshe, Ethiopia, a major recipient of Western aid, sandwiched between volatile Somalia and Sudan, is using broad anti-terrorism legislation to crack down on dissent and media freedoms.

Dear William Gomes: It is people like who give us some hope. I thank you for the piece your wrote in defense of prisoners of conscience in my homeland and also for suggesting an accounting of US taxpayer's millions in aid.
